Episode 4: Cycling around the world for Great Ormond Street, South East Germany and Austria

morning everyone hope you’re doing all right uh just been up for about an hour just just replying to comments thank you for all your kind comments and everything on YouTube really appreciate it and uh for anyone who’s done any donations and everything honestly it really makes a massive difference it doesn’t look like I’ve woke half hour ago does it really [Music] oh [Music] [Music] so they’ve shut the whole Road out uh out of this town there’s like really is no other alternative which is just brilliant uh trying to think of how to get around there’s a little dirt path but I moments like this is just like really really [Laughter] deep breaths deep [Applause] breaths tell you what as much as I was really wound up earlier I thought there no solution to this problem uh it’s actually turned out to be a right things usually work themselves out wow wow indeed 12% gradient going up I think I know often cameras don’t really show climbs very well but I went up to 18% quite tough so got this tiny little bit here and then according to the GPS it flattens out a bit and should actually be a easier had a stop for a second good morning just leaving the campsite of just left should I say it’s just back there um out to the lovely scenery should see the danu for the first time ever which would be nice uh planning do whatever miles I feel like doing today I made it to the danu river hey going to be following this for a long time now nice feeling to get it I’ve never been to this River before so it feels like a bit of an achievement doesn’t it [Music] we done 76 miles in total so a good day today quite happy of that actually uh wasn’t sure if I was going to make it or not in a good amount of time but I did got here about uh quart 7 so that’s pretty good time morning everyone hope you’re all doing okay uh next day now so fill in all C just a little bit tired uh planning to be sort of just west of Regensburg today uh so about 40ish mile ride which would be too bad uh and it’s just a helicopter going over as I’m talking um H this should be a right it be a nice ride I’m planning to have the day off tomorrow uh it’s going to be sort of thunder stormish and I thought it’s just a good us set the day off uh get some editing done hopefully get a good chunk of my Germany video edited and sorted uh just a bit of context today’s May the first so Mayday uh so it’s a national bank holiday in Germany so there’s a lot of people out cycling and stuff like that sort of like on a weekends and it’s just something I’ve noticed in Germany is people are generally quite outdoorsy which is really nice to see uh not saying people aren’t in the UK and stuff they just do different things whereas a lot of them do go out cycling and you can see why there’s so much extensive uh B bicycle infrastructure and stuff [Music] all right everyone uh just almost at my campsite I’ve had the pleasure of having Greg along for the ride and give a little wave in front if he wants to it’s been nice to have some company we’re just about to depart ways in a minute I think uh Greg is going on another sort of 10ish Mile so have a little look where he should go so I’ll talk to you in a bit just said goodbye to Greg really nice ride uh really nice have some company today um really nice person just going riding down towards Vienna uh he started at the source of the danu and basically just following that so thank you for joining me today it was nice to have your company hi everyone hope you’re doing well it’s just me in the tent again I just had a day off yesterday nice day just to relax my legs basically just said no I woke up yesterday and they’re like nope you’re not riding [Applause] [Music] hi everyone hope you’re doing okay just had a bit of a mechanical issue yesterday uh had the um C sort of mountain bolt break so this bit here you can see it’s shared on top I brought it to the shop and they think Vice pressed this down and drilled a hole they’ve done a temporary fix so I’m going to get order up a new part I think a big cause of that was just too much weight on the front rack um so this has inspired me to this has inspired me to just lighten the load slightly so I’ve got rid of a bunch of this stuff right all stuff is posted off 4 kilos of stuff I managed to get off the bike [Music] I thought I heard about this before the um Planet Trail along the danu and it basically represents the distances between planets uh on this scale it’s quite cool Jupiter the teeny tiny Mars teeny tiny Earth and the even smaller Moon and then just over there’s the Sun what a cool little thing eh good morning good morning on the road again uh planning to do about 53 mil today last day in Germany though it was like quite a nice feeling to think eventually getting out of this country even though it’s such an amazing country to cycle in it’s been going on for a while [Music] and that my friends is the border of Austria I’ve made it Austria oh wow woohoo in Austria Austria [Music] good morning hope you’re all all right just about to leave was a very nice campsite just going through the city of Lind all right everyone probably had one of my most favorite interactions so far just on this trip is uh just pulled up to this campsite see seen the camera uh camping and an now stand so I pulled up to the counter and I saw some pictures just behind the wall um of the gentleman who was um I was talking to and uh just a bunch of nepes children um I didn’t know for certain if they were nepes but I asked said so where those pictures been taken and he uh said you know oh it’s me I Vis when I visited the pool and then got in a conversation and found out he works for a charity uh in the pool where they give like uh clean sanitation water and so forth and work a lot of the children over there and then got he asked about me and he saw what I was wearing he said oh well we’re doing the same thing don’t need to pay you know just have a lovely time here um and just had generally Just A really lovely conversation it’s those sort of moments I really love in this trip where you sort of have a sort of common interest in uh something you know I know we’re doing for different organizations but it’s a similar sort of reason isn’t it to help children and help sort of people that you feel um need that support and going out of your way just to do those little bit of extra things for them it’s going to be a fun night tonight how on Earth did that happen [Music] hi everyone hope you’re doing all right uh just left the campsite about 10 minutes ago I had a really nice evening yesterday got invited over to one of the camper ANS of an English couple who uh a good laugh it was enjoyable chatting to them yesterday doesn’t that look just a little bit less [Laughter] ridiculous I was becoming very closely aware that I was looking more and more homeless the more I was cycling with my like things just hanging off everywhere [Music] just uh leaving the campsite just going to head into Vienna today um just cycling through it rather than staying for the day cuz I say it’s quite expensive here in Austria [Applause] a random naked man just walk walk [Music] past racing against the road bikes did you have fun I thinking where’s he going realizing you’re racing along with them
