Putting together a road bike for my partner, so that we can hopefully go on a few UK bike tours – bought this Van Rysel NCR Tiagra from Decathlon through the cycle-to-work scheme – £1.5k, but it’ll work out at about £900 spaced over a year, so a crazy bargain
So far I’ve fitted Redshift’s suspension stem & suspension seatpost, and they’ve really transformed it. It’s still on the standard 700x28s but it felt smoother than my own bike which is on 40s, albeit in a slightly different way (slightly more road buzz, but no big shocks / jolts from speed bumps etc.).
As well as all the usual stuff (bottle cage + bottle, rear saddle bag), I’ve got some 700x35s on the way, as well as a bar end mirror.
Definitely getting to the side-quest stage of bike building / ownership / fanaticism, but at least this is useful.
**Does anyone else have any suggestions on how to make this inherently fast bike even more comfortable/safe?**
