Hi all!

I am in the lookout for a beginner bike and after debating which would be the best sweat spot for a good first bike I landed in these two:

  • Specialized Allez SPORT (~1400€)

  • Tiagra (shifting)

  • 105 (breaking)

  • weight ~9.8kg

  • Trek Emonda ALR (1600€)

  • 105 (shifting and breaking)

  • weight ~9kg

At the moment the Trek seems to be the better option. Better mechanics, lighter and (maybe let me know) better platform for future possible upgrades. In the other hand, the Specialized is 200€ cheaper but I would need to buy it from an online shop and mount it myself (cannot find any good evidence on how "pre mounted" the bike comes). Also the Trek seems to have some negative opinions regarding build quality, namely in this case a possible exposed head mount bearing (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VK0JVSpfdR8 ).

Let me know your opinion!

Thanks!!!

  1. I’d take the allez having ridden both, the ALR is the lighter frame but I’m not a huge fan of the overall quality compared to the newer disc allez. You could feasibly ride both in Europe? Why do you say you’d have to buy them online?
