We did a ride from home in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, to follow the River Severn from the Severn Bridge that spans the estuary between England and Wales to the source of the river that lies in the mountains of mid west Wales, near to the peak of Pumlumon Fawr. We finished the ride on the west coast of Wales at Tywyn.
The ride took four days and we were lucky to have fantastic weather.
okay we’re just heading off on our next little Adventure we are going to be cycling the length of the river 7 from the bridge to the source up in the mountains of West Wales Northwest Wales so the river it’s about 220 M long we got about 40 m ride get from sester to the start of the river stay over which we’re doing right now first first aim today is to get to glester two and a half hours yeah we’ve got David he’s riding it and Rich’s come richu come along to escort us make sure we get away okay [Music] so we’re about 2 miles in today and we’re just dropping off the C all this G to Dr down into the S Valley and Dro down into W under Edge so here we are at the start point of our Seven Ride The River 7even Ride we’re at the big main bridge that crosses over into Wales this is the new bridge uh the old bridge is a bit further up we’re going to cycle up with that and yeah as David said looking very sunny in Wales okay well we are now in the middle of the river 7 on a bridge obviously so this is really the start of the ride properly and then we’ve just got to head Upstream for 220 Mi and we’ll get to the source Crossing back over the uh River on the Upstream side now so that’s where we’re going to be heading following it up that way just like through sharpness docks which is the start of the L sharp Nest Canal which comes in from the uh River 7 obviously so we’ve just crossed over uh sharpness Marina and we’re going to pick up the uh sharpness Canal Trail for a few miles now you don’t often see that do you so we’re just running along in EP and back alongside the river 7 this is actually one spot where you can uh surf the S4 and fact I’ve surfed it here three or four times and you can get a pretty long ride float down down river and then surf it back up okay we just started day two of the trip I had a stop with a friend of mine last night really nice day just on the outskirts of gluster and first thing today is uh we’re going to be going through the middle of gluster through the docks and uh joining up with seven again [Music] so we’ve been trying to find a way out of glester it’s a bit of a maze of tracks and trails we’ve eventually found the right one where they quite kindly put lots of these Gates on the trail which is a pain in the neck so we uh found our way out of glester eventually and we’re on the cycle pathway follows alongside uh the river heading out towards maore I think it is so we just poed out of the track that we followed from Gloucester onto maore Bridge Crossing the seven again this is actually another surf spot the the the highest spot you can surf the seven you can come from down there surf it underneath the bridge if you’re lucky and carry on a little way that was a hill supposed to be flat by the river but lovely Le back over Gloucester on the valley [Music] well we’ve been cruising along the seven Veil lovely lovely flat roads and the sun is out which is absolutely superb thany meeting you here [Applause] Dave it’s coming into Upton on 7 crossing over [Music] again so we’ve got a lovely uh run into Worcester along the Riverside uh cway foot path wow well well well wow so this is where all the swans hang out just uh coming into buley okay we’re just passing through Bridge North now nearly at the end of the uh second a ride and riding along by the river again okay so we’re heading for cport for the night which is just this side of Ironbridge and we’re staying at the ethos and there’s the sign to cport 6 miles along the river so should be flat [Music] it’s dropping into C Port well we’re getting ready for day three um the it’s like a lovely day out there today and we’re in the youth hosel which is a beautiful old building industrial building and we’re having our breakfast there’s the man eating his second or third breakfast all day breakfast all day breakfast yeah [Applause] so just heading from cport to Ironbridge to see the Ironbridge on a lovely little track again and looks like a an Old Railway line more Hills okay here we are on the Iron Bridge the first Iron Bridge apparently yeah um and it was built in 1779 I know that because it says it over there [Laughter] oh my goodness we’re just now uh heading towards sh spry so we’re now following the old shrewbury Canal path which takes us into the middle of shrewbury it’s about 3 or 4 miles long very nice gets off the road miss the me bit so there’s a fantastic uh track trail bike trail right through the middle of shrewbury follows the river all the way through absolutely superb [Music] well a few miles from uh welshpool now just crossing over the seven again it’s getting smaller and smaller just heading past the massive quar the B taking a big chunk of the mountain away so we’re about 5 miles before uh getting to new town and we just dropped onto the 7 Canal path and uh spotted this which is the second Iron Bridge constructed in the county of Montgomery hard to get to actually it’s pretty well hidden so we’re just going along the uh the seven Canal path we’ve got about 6 miles to go into New Town absolutely beautiful and the river 7 is on on our left [Applause] so we’re starting to get into the Welsh mountains now head for cariss and then we what you where staying tonight definitely getting Hillier you’re going to like in those Hills David 70 mil and no food Dave trying to get him off the food he eats too much you can tell but the look of him it’s just like Scotland but more Hills so we’ve just been climbing a monster Hill see how David is lovely and we’ve now got a 2 and a half mile descent for the looks of it down into carus so David’s rear gear cable has snapped right on the last climb of the day so we’re just going to plug away he’s doing incredibly well walk the steepest bit but then after this it’s couple of Miles downhill to the pub where we’re staying so he’s doing a great job so we made it to fadlo the mountain there it is looking forward to getting in there having some beer and some food how you feeling David not good yeah me too okay just heading out on the fourth day and this is the day today we go up to the source of seven had a little bit of fapping about this morning had to repair David’s gear cable rear gear cable and that’s all sorted so it’s probably half n 20 to 10 now so a bit later but just heading out of town so what an absolutely beautiful final day we’ve got I think it’s going to get up to 20° today but lovely morning heading into the haen forest so just riding along the seven here it’s lovely little lovely little stream now we’re probably about 7 or 8 miles from the actual Source now so here we are on the final Seven Bridge of the trip don’t know how many we’ve done quite a lot this one is a bit smaller than the first one and uh here it [Applause] is and the river is absolutely crystal clear and beautiful not like the uh Brown muddy river we have down in glester sure so we’re just riding on a little road above the mighty River 7 that little trickle down there so uh where we are where are we now David H for say that again H H Forest yes we’re just entering the hauffen forest which is where the source is yes so we just got to the car park where you access the trails and briway up towards the seven SCE that we’re just riding through the woods it’s beautiful so what about this for a day David this is absolutely fantastic isn’t it it is absolutely awesome it is stunning Shame about the weather yeah well we are in Wales oh it’s just glorious absolutely glorious awesome so the tru’s getting very very steep now can cycle a little bit and then push push push on and off the bike it’s getting to be hard work here he is I want to go home having fun David are we nearly there yet Dave I think we’re about 2 miles away well we’ve got to the end of the ridable tracks now uh there’s 3/4 of a mile to go to the S so we’re going to dump the bikes lock them up against the gate down there and uh do the rest on foot so we lock the bikes up got our packed lunch in the bag we’re going to have lunch at the source of the [Applause] S so here we are we have made it to the s of the seven hey what a day for it awesome it was all worth it David oh unbelievable four days start to finish unbelievable what an adventure what an adventure and here we are it’s amazing also known as huffin in Welsh hence haen forest and it obviously starts with a little pond on the top top of the mountain that is incredible absolutely incredible awesome what a day to do it on doesn’t get much better so time for a little picnic at the source of seven Great picnic spot too more food for David more food oh it’s fabulous absolutely fabulous great sandwiches so we’re heading back down from the source now um going to pick the bikes up and then carry on up to mcum Mountain and down the other side is some massive massive descent down into mcum and onto the coast the end of the ride oh so just done a monster climb from the other side of munas mountain coming up from the hon Forest but now we’re going to have an absolutely amazing downhill and what a view just coming through M stop for a coffee for doing the last 15 miles so following the uh River duby the DU yery beautiful evening it’s about 4:30 to 5 in the evening really [Music] stunning so we’re just rolling into abdobe beautiful evening we’re just uh cruising through abdui now just stopped for a pint of beer as we’re very close to the end of the ride and uh AB is looking very very nice at the moment so now we just heading towards Teran which is the end point of the whole trip and it’s just about couple of Miles Ahead well just rolling into Teran and we’re on the sea front and this is the actual finish of the ride and we’ve been very lucky
