Introducing Dads new project and a trip to the parts fair #lambretta #vespa #scooter #scootering #scooters #restoration #mods
[Music] morning guys uh got something a bit different for you today um so Dad over Winter’s decided to do a little project uh he’s bought a lameta li125 from the 1960s so I’m going to pop over and see that today and then we’re off to the mammoth scooter fair in Melton M um to see what sort of stuff’s available for it and scope out what n’s doing so catch you later just a say I know absolutely nothing about scooters so this is going to be a real um learning exercise today to find out all about them so here you go he’s taking it to bits it’s a 1963 li125 engine on the side there obviously a lot of cleaning to do there all the body panels off Forks off handlebars off and split the rims dad went for the option of having two saddles on it all the various bits and pieces all taken off boxed ready to be clean blasted and tied it up fairly simple electrics in it you can see there he’s already bought some new rear foot uh board top for it it yep new exhaust we got from the show versus the old one okay so here we are at the mammoth scooter Fair really interesting things here obviously a lot for me to learn on these and dad to learn as well some of them beautifully prepared obviously some of the things that go on in the car World upgraded engines in this one to a 225cc very nice finish on the scooter just to love to see a community who care about their things really some modern ones some old restored [Music] ones these ones here fairly similar to the ones that dad’s bought um these are slightly larger engine 150cc lamb bras but again nice level of finish on them a nice 150 here here you go with all the lights and mirrors on them and again for October a lovely sunny day for it you see this is what they look like all stripped down certainly no shortages bears difficulty with all of these so many different variants trying to trying to find the right spare that you need for yours it’s quite difficult especially when you don’t know them particularly well so I think once the the strip Down’s done it’ll be coming around with the the bits that need replacing to figure out exactly the right ones that we need interesting little stand put the engine in he’s dead move the amazing thing here rather than being at a car event is actually how cheap all the bits are dad’s bought a new exhaust for his today uh cost him the grand total of40 loads of spare engine casings and things like that body panels actually all all the body panels tend to be a bit beaten and battered but um some people like those for the ratty look uh we’ll end up going for the concour look I think with dads actually there’s quite a lot of specialist tools um for rebuilding the engine various pullers and um drifts and things like that there’s more bits and pieces let you a crank cases bit of a project that one obviously mix of vasper and lamba here so again important to know what you’re actually looking for see lots of spares um of them quite tricky so like the cowl that goes over the front is very thin cast aluminium and normally the um the threads break in those although you can get new of a lot of these things those V panels engines it’s quite interesting in the scooter well because uh a lot of the scooters out there don’t seem to have matching numbers and it’s hardly surprising when you see this you could probably build multiple scooters up from the parts that are available at um this event oh yes that skin seats obviously on on the scooters what you’re actually have is your your engine and gear box Allin one um so your piston on one end of it and then all you go is internally of course you can get all your racks and extra seats uh dad’s is a two- seater with two individual seats and grab rails for the passenger quite a trend in stripping these down removing all the body work from them kind of almost a cafe racer style so able to get all the uh the rubbers and things like that for the pedals nice 125 so this is basically like dad’s um got the rear panels off it exposing the engine um the carbs and things like that lovely and clean in [Music] there guys do love the scooters and actually this is a dual sabble version like dad’s we see the grab rail for the uh the passenger to hang on for dear life and another dual seat version obviously came with the passenger this time as well there you go and look at the airbrushing on this one Twisted coils on the front suspension and the stands see a big who fan this one quite interesting eight plates quite square and boxy know made it

Have fun rebuilding it, then ride it and enjoy it, there's nothing quite like the smell and noise of a 2 stroke! Got 2 myself.
Does anybody know what model is the Lambretta model at 6:20 please? I am new to all of this and I am struggling to tell one from another at the moment.
Just in case you haven’t found out yet, your Dads is a Series 3 Li. Either 125cc or 150cc. But the bore size is the only difference between the two. This model was available from 1962 most of the way through the 60’s. Very common so easy to get spares for. Be careful with cheap parts, it almost certainly means they are crap. Always buy from decent scooter shops such as Cambridge Lambretta or Scootopia for example. And get Sticky’s manual. It will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know including how to strip and rebuild every variant. Good luck
No battery tray, so it's ready for a variety of high performance kits with rt. side carb exit. 🙂
