Started my tour five days ago in Oslo. Weather hasn’t been great, particularly the last few days, but today was absolutely mental. It was only after arriving in Gothenburg that I learned this insanity has a name: Storm Hans. Wind and rain unlike anything I’ve ever experienced in Europe.

My chain snapped on day one about 10km out of Oslo center (a blessing in disguise, really), and I had my first flat 10 minutes into day two. Did my first ever tour, six months from London to Istanbul, last year and had basically no issues, so I guess my good fortune isn’t carrying over so far.

Thanking the lord that I pushed it to 100km yesterday in the slightly less awful weather and only had to do 50 today. It was a pleasure to give a wave to all the cycle tourists riding in the other direction and sharing in the struggle, but man today was rough. My hands were so numb I couldn’t undo my helmet, and it took me about 10 minutes to map to my hostel once in the city with my damp clothing, hands and phone.

All part of the journey. Still in high spirits with loads more riding to do, but boy am I happy to be dry in a hostel right now. Wishing everyone in the region safe riding.

I’ve included the nice little camp spot I found in Norway before the weather turned 😊. It hasn’t all been bad!

Anyone else cycling through Storm Hans in Sweden / Norway?

You should be out of the worst of it by now. Download the Norway weather app “YR” . There is a relatively unknown function if you click on map that brings up a live weather radar for the next 90 mins. Really handy for knowing when to duck for cover
