Found this at the local rubbish dump. Almost took it but decided to leave it in the end. Did I make a mistake? It's not my size and I don't much have the time for another rebuild as I'm currently juggling two. After some googling it appears to be an early 90s miyata ridge runner. The hardest part is to take it apart. I bet its all rust welded together. But if you’re able to strip the whole bike, I would restore the frame.
Cranks, frame-fork, brakes and drivetrain are not bad. Wheels and consumables (tires, cables, brake pads, chain) are trash. Others are kinda meh.
A good wheelset probably costs more than this bike will be worth, but it can be a fun project.
For me it’s a treasure, even so it’s not your size, take it apart, some nice additions for parts bin clean clean the frame and pop it onto marketplace or local swap meet for just to insure it’s not going to be remelted into some crap.
Will cost more to make it rideable than it will be worth, I’d pass
A fascinating example of a Japanese nice-frame-cheap-build bike. For free it’s neat but I wouldn’t lose too much sleep over it.
Groupset you can just soak it in a tub full of diesel fuel or something like that with rust remover.
The frame and fork, you can just have it checked if it’s in good alignment and not cracked, then put it up for sale.
Anything else goes to the recycler.
