I have to admit I have seen something like this; the guy had a bike set up for a rear wheel trainer without the Resistance apparatus mounted on the Trainer. He connected the Grip Shift to the rear Brake and used it to gradually push the brake pads against the Rim… essentially a manual drag brake.
