Roommate picked this old junker up for shits and giggles. I think it’s fuckin cool but goddamn is it sketchy to ride with only one old rim brake to stop with.
There’s no obvious mounts that a brake should bolt onto so idrk where to start. Should I find someone to weld disc brakmounts on?

Why’s this getting downvoted?
My bad I shoulda posted a rockhopper with alt bars and a 1x
I’ve seen clamp-on V-brake mounts but I really can’t speak to their quality, sounds a little sketchy. But then again, doesn’t look like you’re afraid of sketchy haha
Looking at the frame mounts this almost certainly came stock with a coaster brake and possibly internal 3 speed hub leaving no mount options for a rim brake.
You shouldn’t try disc brakes because any disc hub would require massive respacing of the rear triangle as this is likely 120mm maybe currently has a 126mm hub but the old 5 speed might still be 120.
Clamp on v-brake posts might be a but, in my experience, these old frames are fairly flexy – good for ride quality possibly not good for adding loading forces on joints not designed for them.
If you were to have someone brace on canti studs, I would personally have them brazed on the Center support.
Or you can put a single speed or internal hub with a coaster back on…
Great bar bike!
Search for a 3 speed coaster brake wheel/hub. You might get lucky and find one cheap.
Coordinating 2 riders to pedal and use a coaster brake is going to be the real challenge.
Can you braze on (welding might not be a good idea, but who knows) a disk brake mount? Should be relatively easy to make a post-mount one with a drill, thick sheet metal, an angle grinder and some drawing/printing work.
Other than that, a coaster brake, or an IGH with a coaster brake might be an option.
Fixed gear, coaster brake, or some welding of canti studs.
What’s the hub spacing? There are some 7-speed, drum brake hub options from Shimano and sturmey archer.
Find someone to braze on v-brake mounts. That’s a good option that lets you keep your gears.
Worksman cycles probably sells a rear three speed coaster brake wheel that has burly enough spokes and a rim that can hold up against two fat drunkards. That’s going to be the simplest solution.
What a rad tandem!
Seconding some of the coaster brake recommendations as a cheap option, although I’d be weary about relying on this on hills with the weight of the bike and two people. Definitely make sure you are getting g the most out of your rim brake in the front.
Another option would be to find a drum brake wheel, which are better with heat dissipation in situations like that. You could even get a drum brake wheelset and still keep the rim brake up front for a triple brake setup
That rust will lock up the rear will nicely 👍
Just drill a hole in the bridge or lace a drum brake hub into it.
the no-drill solution would be to look for a caliper brake that bolts to the seatstay bridge. some older Peugeots have the same vertically drilled bridge, if I were you I’d look for a Mafac Racer or something similar.
