Over the past year or so I've been keeping a keen eye out for any appearance of a bike in a movie. This all started while watching a movie titled Living on Tokyo Time which prominently features a character riding a bike. This list turned into the idea of Bike-in-Movies, a sort of double meaning where I share just the bits of movies where bikes appear but also a monthly event (in the Los Angeles area) where a movie is shown at a location everyone can bike to. Check out the list below and drop a comment of any movie you think belongs on this list! I look forward to organizing the first showing!

EDIT: I intentionally left out most movies explicitly about cycling (Rad, Quicksilver, Breaking Away, American Flyers, etc) those are obvious choices that most of the cycling community is aware of. I will still share and feature these but also want to share the more obscure and unexpected showing a broad range of representation of cycling on the big screen. I also want to feature bike documentaries and indie films down the line.

  1. While “American Flyers” isn’t good for showing when kids are around, “Breaking Away” missing from this list is downright criminal.

  2. What about the various bike promotion/advocacy movies? Motherload or my favorite and filmed right in the basin Bicycle Revolution.
