So I realize this isn't directly about biking, but these are the pants I ride in most frequently and they are routinely recommended on all the MTB clothing threads and I am sure others have noticed the same thing.
Basically what I'm looking for is the exact same pant, just made out of a higher quality fabric. Specifically, what I like about them:
-
Wide, thick, comfortable elastic waistband, plus built-in belt.
-
Just the right amount of taper to fit big-ish quads, while also relatively snug on the calf and ankle to stay away from the drivetrain
-
Appropriate amount of 4-way stretch
-
They look decent enough to wear around as causal pants before/after/instead of riding…the waistband looks like normal pants with belt loops, not like bunchey sweatpants
-
They are the right amount of breathable to be warm enough for a chilly pre-ride, then breathable enough once I get moving
-
No cargo pockets
What I don't like:
-
The material moves a ton. After washing and drying, they are too tight. After wearing them, they are too loose.
-
The material pills like crazy. The outside of the crotch is full of endless pills, even the fabric shaver can't keep up.
If Prana made this same exact pant with their "stretch zion" fabric, that would be perfect. But Prana doesn't make any joggers with the Zion fabric, and the joggers they do have look very sweatpant-y. Or on the other side, their Brion/Zion pants are not tapered enough for what I'm looking for; they are too tight on the thigh and too loose on the calf for their slim cut, and too loose everywhere in their regular cut.
I scoured REI the other day and didn't really find anything. Where else should I be looking?
