Not sure how much of an xbike it is, but it is an xbike in my heart.
The frame was in good condition, but the bike was really gross from being left outside or in a barn or something. Everything not made out of metal was disintegrating. Very little honest wear on the bike though. Some brake parts missing.
Replacement parts were either from my stash or another $15 bike that had working brakes, shifters, chain and other parts. No other money spent. Donor bike was a Giant comfort bike that was probably a few years newer and in better condition, but still missing stuff.
RIP donor bike.
I guess the fork needs painted, but I think it is ok for now. I polished rust off the stanchions and lubed it as best I could. I think it is working as well as it ever did.

Nice save! Is that one of the weird ones with the 1 1/4″ head tube?
