Hey fellow cyclists,
Curious what you’d do in my place. Dropped off bike at a shop in NYC, like the owner and bought this Parlee from them years ago. Paid $200 for a tune up, picked it up & on my way home this happens. The carbon hanger is completely ripped out, seat stay is 65% cracked through, Magic spokes damaged – I don’t think it’ll be salvageable.
Walked it back to the shop, they said they’d get back to me but curious how’d you approach the situation? Love the bike and also don’t have thousands to get a new bike if they say they’ll give a discount.

If I was you I would be pretty damn pissed off! Sounds like it’s entirely their fault, good thing you took it right back as soon as it happened. Imo you should demand compensation that’s the value of the bike because that’s obviously a write off. 200 for a tune up just for that to happens ridiculous, I wouldn’t go back to them again after that
Did the chain jump off when shifting all the way up? Did you hit anything or bump the chain with your foot/heel?
To me this seems like a basic low-limit screw adjustment failure on the shops part. No dork disc + low limit too far in = chainyspokeycrunchies
I’d be furious and try to hold shop responsible.

horrific job from the bike shop! But I wouldnt write the bike off yet, better to look into carbon repair specialists, damage worse than that is possible to repair. Obviously at significant cost, which should definitely be on them. Ps worth posting on r/bikewrench for more expert advice
