I was cleaning this recently bought used old bike.The whole yellow disk fell apart while I was cleaning it. It’s my first bike so I don’t know if it’s a important piece. Let me know please 🙏
No. Many people remove them anyway. They’re supposed to stop your chain moving beyond your lowest gear and jamming in your wheel but with a properly indexed modern system that’s unlikely.

Often derided as a, “dork disc.”
It’s not an issue with a properly adjusted drivetrain.

It saves spokes if you do happen to overshift.
