Want to ugprade my 2020 Diamondback Hook to something with a clutch and wider range for climbing without spending too much. And I'm wondering if the Microshift Acolyte is good, cause I've seen a lot of people not reccomending any 8 speed groupset above 42t (its 12-46t with clutch). I'm just wondering if its good or not or if I should go with a Shimano cues groupset on ebay instead. (may or may not even get it if I buy it since ebay is ebay)

Microshift is always good. I have the advent and advent x on some old 80s bikes and they are great.
Typically people dont recommend wide ranging group sets on 8 speed because the jumps beteeen gears gets pretty wide which tends to make it hard to shift smoothly and isnt always ideal for you to fond the cadence you need in the moment. I personally feel like sometimes that worry is a little overblown. Its not going to shift perfectly like a SRAM transmission but its a $75 groupset, not a $1000 groupset.
I haven’t personally used an Acolyte but micro shift’s mountain bike products have always been fine by me. I haven’t always been as big of a fan of their road options.
