It’s an 11 speed hub, so should I feel safe using an 8 speed cassette with spacers with this damage? Thanks

Yeah, looks like only the one spline is damaged, I wouldn’t have trouble riding that.
Still safe, i even use 9 speed casette + spacer on 11/12 speed freehub. Mine have lots of dents and few deep chips around the splines.
The big gouge is no problem at all. The force of the cassette presses on the left side of the splines.
There is very minor gouging from the cassette on the other splines. If that‘s a problem when putting on a new cassette you can just carefully sand those down.

For me it would be a good reason to tell my wife my bike is broken and I need to buy a new one.
They’re Gucci, as the kids used to say. Look at the surface area that meets the component you’re installing. I mean, check your tolerances, but I wouldn’t bat an eye on that hub.

I still ride on a hub body that looks like crackhead’s mouth, you’ll be fine
No worries. I wouldn’t hesitate to use that for a second.
I think it’s absolutely fine, but if it bothers you at all you could just replace the outer part of the freehub body.
