R1Liz – Iceland with S1000RR – P7 – First Day on Iceland!

Finally my bike and I have arrived at Iceland!
The weather has been good enough that I’m able to travel north and see the half of the island that I wasn’t expecting to visit! So without much of a plan, off we go.

The bike is feeling great, we’ve had a few slips in gravel but other than that, the roads are fine. I think it’s a relief to get away from the heatwave back home, and both of us can breath in the crisp cold air.

I will work on the wind noise problem. Annoyingly, the mic I purchased for my phone camera worked when I tested it at home, but has since given up. Hopefully the visuals make up for it…

good morning we are going to land on Iceland today and here is my first Glimpse from the cafe window because hungry but oh my God oh my God there’s snow that’s a lot of snow okay just had breakfast and it’s a buffet breakfast so I have have made sandwiches as well and hidden them in my bag for later cuz we are going to we going to land in a minute well in an hour and a half this is my first glimpse of Iceland I’m going to keep this bed of the video relatively short and sweet because I do have my action cameras with me so I will film myself riding but I will show you my view anyway a man just asked me if I’m my land I could do the languages just hiding around the corner so I don’t get hit with all the wind noise but basically basically this is the east side of the island and according to all of my weather apps this is kind of the coldest area on the island so if this looks bad that’s fine it’s it’s going to get warmer it’s going to get less snowy as I go around the North and then I’ll come back from the south and the south is looking pretty not snowy at the moment but also if I didn’t get to see this I think I’ll be pretty disappointed no one goes to Iceland to see dirt that doesn’t have snow on it that se I’m not [Music] what’s your name a a a a okay oh dear right so we are we are off the boat we are three Customs it took a little while it is hot it is sweltering I haven’t plugged any of my electric stuff stuff in I’ve got heated grips on the first level which I don’t even think I need [Music] and this lovely lovely man has been um following my plans on the internet and has turned up at the ferry port to meet me and it’s going to ride with me for the first leg of my journey he said his name was a uh what what a commitment he’s ridden all the way out here and um yeah yeah it’s it’s nice to have some company for the first little bit in a new country especially when you’ve been on a boat for 3 days like I will forget which side of the road to ride on so this is it my first time in Iceland look how icy it is look it’s a big contrast though because it is warm down here it’s warm it’s sunny I have absolutely no idea what we’re in for further out this road on all of the weather apps has been consistently dangerous looking since I started looking at it back in April it’s started to look a little bit better but I don’t know if the apps are being dramatic or if actually no they are covered in snow so we will see time will tell there’s a lot of corners and twists and turns and to be honest this road alone just looks amazing it looks so much more fun than the roads that that I have and we’re hit with it [Music] first but I have booked a hostel for tonight I found one for £30 which is super cheap that is ridiculously cheap for out here everywhere else is like 100 to 200 a night somewhere like minimum so 30 is nothing so I booked it even though it’s not really it doesn’t really go well with my route but it’s so cheap I can’t pass that one up so I’m stopping there and it just means that I have either time to go exploring somewhere else or time to stop and have a nice walk in the evening my face hurts from smiling so much like the last week I’ve been just so so happy the happiest I think I’ve ever been oh please don’t start overtaking stuff I’ll cry I know you think I’m on a speedy speedy bike but me and Pinky we don’t speedy speedy oh oh I forgot catle GDs existed oh he’s going for it okay oh wow there’s a waterfall oh wow oh my goodness everyone stopping obviously everybody’s gone off the boat at the same time so this is stunning but there’s no point stopping can get it on the way back or there’s just going to be more of it everywhere everywhere we go this is just this is the norm and just like in Norway you stop looking at it because it’s just it’s just how it [Music] is oh my God look at that look at that oh I wish this camera was working but it isn’t at the moment can’t stop the camera car oh my God I cannot believe this got CLE grid right in the middle of the corner that’s not not fair is it so this is the first town fuel um what does that I don’t know what that means bye what yeah there is he I don’t I don’t know what he’s I’m I’m getting fuel was I supposed to follow you no you can do whatever you want oh okay another gas station oh okay is it better it’s the same gas is a little bit cheaper here but the shop is open if you want coffee or something yeah okay yeah sorry I did I didn’t know if you were like bye okay no no no I’ll follow you okay guys St oh my gosh um I don’t care up here lot going on lot of snow lot of geese and would you believe 5G not going to lie it’s just kind of funny at this point okay I’ve had a look at the map and this road up here it is a it is a beauty spot but it is closed so you can ride a certain distance up it and then it’s closed and I don’t know if it’s worth the risk so I might just walk over the road for a second to have a look see what’s going on over there what a life I have eight days of this I think this is going to be the only few days where we’re actually going to see a lot of snow once I get West I think it’s just normal uh ah okay so this road runs parallel to another road and this is the pretty Road and parallel road is the safe road and this one is actually just gravel but you can see how good that’s going to be there was a sign bag there that said look out for sheep and then figured what the hell is a sheep sheep going I do here I haven’t seen the color green for 4 hours okay I was passing by this car park and it looked busy so I wondered what it was and I thought oh maybe it’s because of the view maybe that’s a volcano that I don’t know about I have no idea I didn’t research the north part of the island I didn’t think I was going to be able to do it um and then I smelled something that smelled so bad um sulfur like uh um so yeah you pay to park here and we’re going to go and smell whatever that is for 5 minutes I’m sure it’s significant absolutely but it’s cool is it is Bing is it I have absolutely no idea how much I paid to park here so I’m going to walk around the whole thing cuz I bet it was expensive it’s so weird down to [Applause] okay that’s enough of that my stomach cannot take the smell anymore I need to go breathe some fresh air minus the egg I have arrived an hour and a half early which is not ideal um but I parked up and I found the place so happy days I guess I could just go for a little walk or something while I wait guys that is a volcano stop bullying me go away room key acquired this can’t be right we go back allor right getting my steps in okay that’s not like it pillow plug socket window mirror Wi-Fi right I walked to the shop because I didn’t have anything here I got two drinks I got a packet of tea bags and I got my favorite cinnamon rolls that I used to eat in Norway and now meeting them here and this came to 1,96 Icelandic cronas which is about £10 so that’s not that bad if you think about it if you were in England and you were in a expensive metrol station or something it be24 sorry £ 2£ I think these are like 150 but let’s round up to two cuz we’re in an expensive place so we’re on six again probably 2 quid eight so if you were living expensively in England Iceland is still more expensive but it’s not that much more expensive basically the financial struggle is a problem for when I get home and I’m not going to look at my bank okay that is it for me for today I’m am going to go to bed it is it’s 9:30 it’s still like completely daylight out there it doesn’t feel like 9:30 at all tomorrow I am going to hopefully hug the coast a little bit go further north but only really do 200 miles before I stop at my next stop weather depending obviously if the weather is terrible I’ll just go to my next stop but I think it’s going to be I hope you guys enjoyed this video and I will catch up with you very soon goodbye
