Both of my cleats slip out of the pedals and don’t lock into place anymore. They’ve been working fine for a couple years but in the last few hundred km or so they’ve both become so loose they can be pulled straight out instead of needing to be twisted to unclip.

I’ve tightened the tensioner on both pedals fully (so much so that I stripped the bolt on the pedal in the pic) but it barely made a difference.

Is some part clearly worn out and in need of replacement or is there something else I can try? Thanks!

  1. radical-radish on

Nothing looks obviously worn out, but I’d try a new pair of cleats.

  2. I think you lost a little hard plastic tab that is wedged between the SPD’s tension screw and the tension spring. When you adjust the retention screw it pushes a flat plastic which then pushed the coil spring to increase tension of steel clip at the back of the pedal, It happened to me once.
