I might be misremembering but I’m pretty sure that’s only needed on the sworks aethos because it doesn’t have threads built into the frame. I’m prettttty sure my CruX just bolted right on.
but either way it’s the same part # on both frames.

I believe it goes inside the frame if there is not a threaded insert to allow the derailleur mount to clamp onto the seat tube.
Per specialized is the backing plate. Here’s a manual for installation on the aethos.
