I’m doing a kayak/bike/run race and thought I could get a better setup for on the road than my mountain bike. I have the Trek multitrack 790 that I have used a few times around my house within the last couple years, or my mom’s Bianchi brava I’ve never ridden. Which would be better to spend time/money on fixing up?
Would be replacing the clip in pedals on the Bianchi with clipless and swapping in a different seat on the Trek at a minimum.

Both those bikes are lovely and worth riding. Drop a couple bucks freshening them up and you’ll get years of enjoyment out of them.
A lugged early 90s Trek 790(!) in that condition. Holy crap! The Trek. All day every day.
Er, wait. Forget that and focus on this dangling shiny thing I am swinging back and forth. The Bianchi. Yeah, the Bianchi… forget the Trek. You don’t even want that Trek. It’s a burden. It makes you feel unwell. It actually has a foul odor. You want to sell it (to me).
Is it working?
If the race is purely on a road, maybe the Bianchi but for anything else, it’s the Trek
Buy them both.
The 790 is a great bike with a fantastic frame made out of high grade materials and, for the time, high level components. They’re very hard to find, and fetch high prices on the resale market.
Get that one.
Combine them together and get a dropbar trek with the cantis you can clear decent size tyres or like me run 32s with fenders.
The 3x setup of the roadie is mean might be able to do a cheap upgrade to 32t at the rear and get a mean range.
790 for sure! Otherwise, sell it to me!

Ok when is your race?
Are both bikes your size?
Is cycling section purely paved road?
How comfortable are you riding dropbar bike?
Bianchi will be a no brainer choice for me, it’s lighter, snappier, better rolling and it’s a dropbar, in other words it’s a proper roadbike, while Trek is more of a touring.
