Matches with my experience. Drive in the center of your lane. It’s safer. Here in Germany car drivers aren’t even allowed to pass if there is less than 1.5m inside settlements and 2m outside settlements of space between you and them whilst passing. Therefore it is illegal for car drivers to pass you when you are on a narrow street and car drivers have to treat you like a car when passing eg. drive into the oncoming traffic lane.

And the best tool against impatient and honking car drivers: Earphones. Just ignore them. Remember that they don’t care about your safety and just want their convenience. Stay in the center of the lane and stay safe.

  2. I call this the Counter-Strike strafe effect. Any competitive FPS player knows that moving farther from the wall makes you more visible, and moving closer to the wall makes you less visible.

PSA the road law states cyclists ride close to the curb **as safely** practicable. If it isn’t safe it isn’t safely practicable.

  3. One time a man walking on the sidewalk saw me biking in the center of the lane and became incensed. He yelled something about how I didn’t have a right to the road and aggressively moved into the road to attack me. Thankfully, I was in the center of the lane and had given myself the space to avoid this road hazard.
