Hello all, I’ve waxed my chain for the first time and followed all instructions but the drivetrain is very loud, to the point it sounds like something is grinding. I know there will be some extra sound after a wax (especially the first one), but this seems excessive and just looking for some confirmation that this is normal and it just needs breaking in.
Thanks in advance and sorry about the creaking from the repair stand as I pedal.

Check your chain routing through your derailleur.

The chain is routed incorrectly.

So here I was doing the wax on 2 of my bikes. I was really worried about the quicklink on the SRAM bike, they claim it’s single use. After some handwaving from a friend I decided to ignore it as well and reuse the quick link a second time.
Went for a slight test ride, but it was still loud. Then I discovered I had the same problem as you, there’s the annoying nub thing on the derailleur that makes the chain slightly bend around it if it’s not routed properly. There goes the 3rd use of the same quicklink that’s only supposed to be used once. Oh well, 3rd times the charm.

Then i proceeded to do the exact same mistake on my ebike. Luckly that one is a KMC where they say [it’s reusable](https://kmcchain.us/products/missing-link-9).
My waxed chains have been quiet ever since.
