[Music] this is a dirt jumper and speaking in completely general terms at its core it is a hard tail mountain bike just with 26-in wheels single speed generally just a rear Brak steeper head tube angle than most hard Tails you’re going to find on the market today and overall shorter and Tighter geometry than maybe you’re used to seeing purely to create a chassis that is quick handling enough to deal with the tighter features that you’ll find at skate parks pump tracks and of course dirt jumps the beauty of these things is they’re pretty dead simple which helps bring down the barrier of Entry like the cost of Entry to get into one of these bikes and actually locally to me older models pop up on Facebook Marketplace all the time for a pretty good price the bike works the same and it would get you dirt jumping right away for a fraction of the cost new however if you’re someone who doesn’t like to hunt for used stuff or you just want something new maybe with warranty I’m just going to link this polygon trid Dirt Jump bike below it’s on sale with bikes online right now for ,000 it’s enough bike for anything I would ever need it for so if you’re a beginner it’s something you could easily grow into and ride for years and years if my bike got stolen today with my limited funds and maybe a credit card that’s probably what I would just go by to make sure that I could continue riding if you do purchase through that link I get a little bit of kickback appreciate it now for me to offer my number one piece of advice for the experience I have riding dirt jumpers a larger platform pedal that has metal pins so that you always have somewhere to land your foot and it doesn’t skate around too much otherwise whatever helmet you have and some skateboard shoes will go a long way to being the attire you need to ride dirt jumps and as a quick note I just want to add if you don’t have a dirt jumper and you’re not ready to buy one yet but you do have a hard tail or even a trail bik you still can ride dirt jumps don’t let that stop you but when you do have what you’re going to ride you have to go somewhere to [Music] [Music] ride and honestly it’s likely going to be location facilities somewhere to actually ride your dirt jumper that’ll be the uh the main hurdle you’ll need to overcome when you want to get into dirt jumping at least that’s my expectation based on my personal experiences but hopefully your city has something like we’ve created here over this summer with different levels of jump lines to go over that you can progress slowly to what we call the large line here so the idea here is obviously dead simple we’ve got the small beginner Line This is where you’d start if you have no experience at all and the way that Devon built these features is kind of cool it’s just a roller on the right side here you just literally ride over it and then as you get comfortable rolling over these features you can come over to here there’s a little bit more of a jump style takeoff on the left side we call that a lip that’ll help you get an idea of what it’s like to let both tires leave the ground and then when you’re completely comfortable with that you just move over to the side that has the lip and start seeing what it’s like to go off [Music] that eventually that’s just going to become so second nature and so easy that it’ll be pretty obvious it’s time to progress up to the next size it has to be said I know not everybody has access to this type of facility but this style of small line with a roller and then a lip next to it is always very impressive at how quickly people get the mechanics of going over a jump the roller itself as you ride it and the wheels stay on the ground still sort of force you to understand what’s going to happen as you come up what’s going to happen as you sort of float and fly and what’s going to happen as you the do D back in it’s always very natural to see someone new play on this a little bit and quickly move over to this and feel pretty comfortable so if you have the means I highly suggest asking for something like this to be built or riding something like this if uh if you’ve got [Music] it good [Music] morning good morning are above it’s to [Music] be good morning good morning how are you above and actually as you progress to bigger and bigger lines you’ll actually notice that the features change and become a little bit more challenging as well this one here that you just saw me do a tabletop over that’s a hip which means the lip and the landing are 90° to each other instead of one after the other a hip in my opinion is more fun and sometimes kind of easier to hit than a straight jump but it’s just different and adds variety to Trails and that’s part of the fun I’m trying really really hard not to get too technical here it can just be too much information all at [Music] once so I hope that was helpful especially if you’re just in the beginnings you’re standing on the like you’re toying with the idea of starting to ride one of these things the biggest takeaway in a lot less words should be I’ve got a bike I’d like to hit jumps I’m going to go hit jumps so first step is go and hit some features that you feel comfortable with and slowly progress up from there that’s how everybody has done it that’s how everybody will continue to do it it’s pretty dead simple I’d certainly love to continue making more content around this topic it’s kind of like taken over my life a little bit so if you have questions just leave them in the comments below and I’ll address them in the next uh dirt jumper focused video so yeah all [Music] right

I think hips are more confidence-inspiring because you can see the landing before you take the jump
That was helpful. I haven’t jumped a bicycle in many years… bikes and jumps have changed a lot since then.
You seem to be progressing well on the no foot thing. Nice!
Great video!
Can you start dirt jumping if you’re pushing 40? ..asking for a friend 😀
How's a dirt jumper for street riding and generally riding around doing manuals and bunny hops?
This is an ugly dirt jumper… but mine is not better
So my biggest obstacle has been hitting bigger air on a drop bar bike and feeling comfortable. Even with a dropper it can feel like a rather brave thing..
Thanks as always on the entertainment
I really liked how you emphasized how DJ bikes are really low barrier… It's very true… DJ bikes are cheap, tough, and versatile, and the frame designs haven't changed drastically in 20 years… Now i need to dig my old frame out and build up a DJ bike again… Thanks, ya jerk 😂
The random wii music lol
My question: how do you successfully jump a hip? I crashed hard on one at a bike park and messed up my hand and lost my confidence so any advice would be appreciated!
How suitable is a rigid retro 26er MTB for dirt jumping? Like, have you brought your Rockhopper to that park, or with old geometry less trail etc would that just be a face plant?
Hit the jumps on a drop bar gravel bike plz
So stoked to see these jumps revamped like this, i had wandered if you gave up on fixing them byhand 😅. They look sick and such a rad thing for a community
Wondering where abouts this park is? Rough area is gude enuff bro
I have a dirt jumper, a really nice one that I acquired in a trade. I have nowhere to ride it, but I’m pushing for some localities to build something here. I’m “old” at 38 but I don’t care, I like bikes and I want to ride all kinds. Please continue the basics series!
When I first stumbled upon your channel you were doing mostly cx and gravel videos at the moment. I liked the content and stuck around although what I really was looking for was dirt and mtb stuff. Paid off big time. Tnanks!
your music is always amazing. Thank you for introducting my to Brockbeats 🙂
its very hard to explain a dj but all i say is its a bmx mixed mtb
Where about are these jumps?
I have a dj myself, I essentially have custom built up a 2023 Norco Rampage (frame is essentially just like the only stock bit apart from headset and stem) and i would buy it again, its amazing how simple these bikes are for the experience and good for riding.
Impressive Bike Park!!! 😍
Here in Idaho Falls ID, we finally got a mountain bike park last summer. And a Ryder bike park, but it still under construction. It is coming along nicely, hence the reason I bought the YT industries Dirtlove core 2. I am 52 now and its been a long time since I've been to the bmx track. Thinking I might start there before hitting the bike park 🤔
"beginners guide" with no info on technique or anything. "just ride and jump duh"
У нас в Санкт-Петербурге есть пара официальных спотов и еще с полдюжины самодельных! Но я рад что повсеместно в Европе эту тему продвигают так же хорошо!
❤
how do i ask my council to do that !
I’m 43 and got a new jump bike today after mountain biking since 1991 then having the last ten years not riding. Wish me luck 😂😂😂
Yooo, did u ever get skin burns when pinching the saddle with the knees for no handers and such, im getting skin burn all the time on inside of my knees, how to prevent this shit😂🥲?
I am always off on the approach speed to the jump, I am a beginners there a better way to find the correct speed to clear the hum properly?
Hey man great vid, i was just wondering if I should save my money and buy a dualie or buy a dj
