LIVE FOOTBALL: Wrexham v Cardiff City
Live coverage of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup Final between Wrexham and Cardiff City from Rodney Parade.
On Sunday afternoon, Cardiff City will be hoping to win the Bute Energy Welsh Cup for the third time in a row.
The Bluebirds managed to lift the cup in Merthyr Tydfil last season after beating Llansawel 4-0.
Their previous success in the competition was a 2-0 win against Cardiff Met in 2022. Before that Cardiff had not won the cup since 2016, which was the clubs first time lifting the trophy.
Cardiff are the champions of the Genero Adran Premier once again this year, with the club also lifting the Genero Adran Trophy after defeating Swansea 5-1 in the final.
Cardiff won the league for the first time in 10 years last season, with the club also managing to lift the Welsh Cup trophy, but missed out on the Adran trophy after a 3-1 defeat against Cardiff Met in the final. Cardiff City manager Iain Darbyshire will be determined to go one step further this season in order to complete the treble.
Only Swansea City have managed to beat Cardiff in the league this year. The Swans managed to defeat the Bluebirds by two goals to nil in the Capital at the beginning of February, and then once again on home soil at the end of March.
A goalless game against Aberystwyth in September is the only other time Cardiff have not won a league game this season.
Wrexham are aiming to be crowned champions of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup for the first time in their history.
Wrexham have only reached the final once before, and that was against another club from Cardiff, ‘Cardiff City Ladies’, where they lost 9-0. Despite the similarity in the names ‘Cardiff City Ladies’ are a club that is completely separate from Wrexham’s opponents this year ‘Cardiff City Women’.
During the 2015-2016 season, Wrexham pulled out of the Genero Adran Premier after failing to attract players.
After returning to the Genero Adran Premier this year, Wrexham have managed to finish 3rd, behind Cardiff and Swansea, the only two clubs to defeat the reds this season.
Wrexham haven’t had much luck against the Bluebirds, losing five games in a row in all competitions. A win for Wrexham on Sunday will grant them they’re first ever victory against Cardiff.
Cardiff striker Eliza Collie scored the most goals in the Genero Adran Premier this season with 17 goals, but Wrexham’s top scorer, Rosie Hughes wasn’t far behind with 15 goals across the season.
Out of the 15 players who have scored five goals or more in the Genero Adran Premier this season, five of them play for Cardiff, with 21 different players scoring for the Bluebirds across every competition this season.
Wrexham, Cardiff and Swansea decided to offer semi-professional contracts to their players this season, with Wrexham offering contracts to 10 players, and Cardiff offering contracts to the entire squad.
Semi Final: Cardiff 3-1 Swansea, Wrexham 1-0 TNS
Quarter Final: Wrexham 2-0 Llansawel, Pontypridd 0-3 Cardiff
2nd Round: Wrexham 1-0 Llandudno, Cardiff 5-0 Swansea University
Round 1: Pwllheli 0-13 Wrexham, Llanelli 0-14 Cardiff

pale Road English language commentary is available now for this but energy Welsh Cup final match Sky plus freev view or Virgin Media viewers please press the red button if you have a too box or skyq box please access settings and use the audio selection option any problems please contact our viewers hotline [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] oood [Music] [Music] par for a for you know we had a lot of Ambitions to come into the league and be competitive and get into the top four we managed to do that quite comfortably you know when we look back on it uh for our first season we can be incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved obviously it’s a landmark achievement because it’s the first time that the women’s team have got to a major final so again that should be celebrated and we’re really proud of of the group for the efforts that they’ve put in our fans they’ve followed us home and away already this season but I know there’s quite a few looking to make the trip down to Newport so we’re really grateful and you know we are we’re made up that that we got there but yeah we we we’ve got eyes on the prize we’ll be facing a really tough Cardiff side obviously throughout the season there’s been some really good games but some tough games along the way so we know what to expect in terms of it’s not going to be an easy game it’s a cup final so you know form sort of goes out the window in some games there’s just been fine margins that have managed to get away from us but you know we’re we’re really excited and looking forward to the challenge definitely especially at all go he definitely Midfield will uh obviously Ros Hill Rosy Hill and goal scoring machine and this with us being at rexim we want to be successful and we want to get into as many finals as we can you know it’s a great opportunity for us and either way we should be relatively proud of of what we’ve achieved this season and it’d be really nice to cap it off with with a trophy Droid re Rosie Hill a goal scoring machine te for for [Applause] [Applause] for for [Applause] addiction BBC [Music] player [Music] [Applause] fore e e e e e e e [Music] [Music] Ry for [Music] help for live stream um mova well a game perwer a in a final just I just the go supered per forus double [Music] treble sh DAV and me oh te Sol right and teami Becky we’ve got English language commentary available as usual for this game that’s on the red buttonik [Music] Davis Roberts [Music] well good afternoon everyone and welcome to Rodney parade Newport and the 2024 bu energy Welsh women’s Cup Final Cardiff City are aiming for their third successive Welsh cup win which is also seal an outstanding treble for Ian darish side having already lifted the league title and the adran trophy rexon will start as underdogs having reached the final in their first season back in the top tier their last appearance in the W Cup Final was 2008 losing to Cardiff City ladies who play now in the English pyramid keeping me company in scoro red button company this afternoon is former was International KY Sherwood and we’ll hear a little bit more from KT in a minute suan Henderson will lead the anthem a member of the Welsh of the West end crew [Music] [Applause] [Music] my all with [Music] We R the sun [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] white oh [Music] [Applause] sign by suan Henderson from Pon clean and it is an exciting afternoon for these women rexam in their first final since 2008 back in the top tier while Cardiff City look to complete the unique Welsh treble KT how do you think see you this going well like you said Mike you know cter City they are the favorites going into this game but we all of an underdog don’t we we rexim so they’ll be here to try and spoil their party this this evening that’s for sure yes indeed we will also include the fact that Katy’s sister Hannah power will be part of Cardiff City’s lineup in terms of the reom lineup they make two changes from their 5-1 defeat against Cardiff on the last day of the Season top scorer Rosie H and the influential TJ Dickens dropped to the bench replaced by Li and liot daisher makes one change from the 11 that lifted the adran trophy they include mean boen whose introduction changed the game against swansee she’s included a center back the front three a 55 goals between them yeah rexon will look to set up in that 451 a much more defensive setup led by Captain Allen who will want to organize her unit into a much more compact shape and pack that Midfield of five look to Domin possession and really assert themselves out of possession uh with Kyro Jones in that lone Central role Cardiff with their formidable 343 formation they’re flat three center backs but they thrive on wide play with price and cook looking to go into those Advanced positions bayam she’ll be their deep line midfielder and give the license for sarin Watkins to push in and join those front three who will look to Interchange into in those front line and today’s referee another piece of Welsh football history an all female officiating team take charge today led by the experienced Gerald Foster former Welsh International with 63 caps and nine goals she’s recently stepped back from refereeing in the K Premier she’s assisted by Kerry Williams and Michelle pelli this player here Cara Jones key player to watch she’s one of four players who’ve played in every game for rton this season still look to play in that lone Striker role uh Rex got to make sure she doesn’t get too isolated but she she’s definitely their go-to player kho another standout player this season new player for carda City a canum Islands International nine goals in the league and again she’ll play anywhere in that front three great vision and a great eye for goal as well and they hold such a threat Katy in with those front three of ran o Molly Kio and Eliza Ki Eliza Ki top scorer in the jro adram premere with 17 goals can you see anything but a card City Victory this afternoon I think they definitely have the psychological Edge don’t they they’ve played rexon five times and come you know won five of those all five of those games so rexam know they have to do much better defensively to get anything out of this game here this evening well it’s Eliza coli the League’s top score with the first touch and we can expect a great deal of possession here for Cardiff City as they look to complete a unique treble having lifted the league title and the adron trophy a few weeks ago with a comprehensive second half performance sparked by mean and boen and I think with rexam lining up with those five in Midfield they really look to disrup the space the Cardiff like to work in and really dominate those Central areas Steve Dale the rexam manager been with the club for a number of years he’s also in charge of the girls under 16s as well and in charge of girls performance center at rexon Deli Morgan clears up towards l fooot little touch by L foot is out for a throw to Cardiff City and it is Hannah power with the throw I’m sure you’ll be as impartial as you possibly can again this afternoon KY we both commentated on the uh Cardiff City Victory last season at pad Daran Park that was a one-sided Affair a 4-n win for the bluebirds that afternoon as always Mike I’m a professional and if I’m right as well Katy you played in the 2008 final for Cardiff City ladies against rection the last time the dragons were in the final yeah that was the last time I I actually played in the in the Welsh pyramid um I was just returning after having my son who’s now 16 so a long time ago but y I did I think I’ve won the Welsh cup three times so Katy Sherwood well qualified to assist me this afternoon and foul there heavy Challenge and a early free kick and an early opportunity here for Cardiff City to throw this into the box ball played out to the left hand side opportunity to cross low it’s Pritchard that clears for rexen and this is Watkins Watkins shot striking cans plenty of red shirts back in defense and cardi City lose the opportunity to cross but clever play by Cardiff playing the ball out to that left hand side from that free Kick K yeah you know I talked about Cardiff strength being at wide you know Michaela cook and f price they’ll look to get into those Advanced positions and that’s something that rexam has to deal with a lot better than what they did in the previous game but rexon they’ve had four weeks now to prepare for this game to be really fully absorbed in into preparing for this performance and I’m sure they would have analyzed that defeat picked out the positives but look where they can really improve and really assert themselves against Cardiff skill by power feeds price price so influential in terms of assists for this card City outfit there’s boen Bo an early touch for Captain Shor Walsh power a little bit too much power on that one I think and it goes out for a goal kick for rexam yeah you can see early that rexam are really much more Compact and organized they’re sitting with five in Midfield and four at the back and they’re going to make it really difficult for carder City to build their possession and find those spaces to exploit Del Morgan in the goal for rexam 28 years of age played in 15 of The League games this season is the Wales under 19’s coach there’s excellent distribution the ball played forward encouraging the Run by Cara Jones oh an indecision at the back and a first touch for Ken Chamberlain but there was certainly indecision between walshan Chamberlin yeah and that come from Cara Jones Chasing it down she has so much energy really tenacious and this is important Rex them they cannot give Cardis City an inch don’t give them any respect really assert themselves be really aggressive in that press and put them under pressure something that we didn’t see enough in their last uh fixture Kio with the pass forward looking for Mela cook there is a foul again K dropping short and turning and playing the ball through the defense yeah that’s something she’s really good at she’ll drop into those positions and really try to confuse the defense whether to step out or not five minutes play rexam nil Cardiff City nil Karen Allen would have been hoping for a little bit more distance on that she get another opportunity but it’s played forward a little aimless pass and it goes through harmlessly to Karen trainin we can see already uh ktie how high f price and Michaela cook are playing the two Wing backs they’ be looking to utilize spacing behind the fullbacks yeah that’s been a an identity of CER City this year getting those Wing backs into those really Advanced positions and creating those overloads in the final third again good distribution by Deli Morgan looking for amber light foot with of two changes in Steve Dale’s starting 11 so surprising to see Rosie Hughes left [Music] out he was top scorer before the split with 13 goals only two since in the second half of the season that’s Phoebe Davis for Rex Lily Jones is combative in Midfield but the ball played forward and space here in front of ran Oakley Oakley the captain Karen Allen opportunity to cross two waiting for it slips past Allen and Oakley again and on the volley this time it’s high and over the bar but an excellent early opportunity for ran Oakley to open the scoring for Cardiff City yeah it’s a first chance to see what Cardiff City can do in that transition and R oakle she’s been on absolute fire this season but this is where Rex him they they have to be careful and when they commit players forward they have to be able to recover because you know the pace of ran Olean how how how quickly that they will um transition from that defense into attack I remember rightly ktie she was a little wasteful at in the early stages of the adran trophy final where she missed early opportunities it didn’t really come to anything because they won the game 5-1 but ran Oakley six goals in six game since the split and she did get that goal one of the five was scored against Swansea City in the Adan trophy final two yeah she’s been a huge part of carder City’s success this season but like you said Mike she did miss a few didn’t she in that um Cup Final and it’s important that you take your chances early certainly an early goal for cardio City would settle the nerves of the team as they look to complete a unique and outstanding treble here come rexon through Phoebe Davis Davis looking to for that ball defense splitting pass that’s well played by Lily Jones Ken’s K’s looking for the run and again Karen Chamberlain well off her line but price clears up to oakle yeah we can see early on Cary the rexs him are much more compact much more composed on the ball that we’ve seen [Music] previously Oakley comes for it Carl Jones giving away possession but Gibbard oh excellent skill an opportunity here for Cara Jones Jones oh super first touch by Cara Jones taking her Beyond chobor Walsh and the low shot well saved by Chamberlain yeah that was a beautiful piece of play that first touch to take around mag boen an under 19 International full of confidence great ball by Lily Jones to start with that touch is beautiful just needed more power you can see what she’s trying to do place it into the bottom corner it just needed more power on it but great play by rexon well what a first touch that was by the former Stoke City lady ball played forward by of city and again it’s a race to get there first and ran Ole but not the F best first touch she has the pace to beat the left back Phoebe Davis easily it was great cover in play though by the captain Karen Allen she got across really really well to cut off the angle that Oakley had yeah great play Here by rexon great first touch there by Lily Jones to open the field great ball but that touch full of confidence Cara Jones there it’s a great opportunity to put her team ahead Rex finding it hard to clear and dth Morgan had to be quickly off her line there to collect indecision in both defenses but going back to that move Lily Jones with the defense spitting pass and the excellent first touch from Cara Jones that will give the Rex and women confidence Katie yeah confidence a little bit of belief that this team they’re not in touchable CER City any play you put under pressure but that’s what they have to do they have to put this back three under pressure this is the sixth meeting between the sides this season it’s all been oneway traffic really with Cardiff winning all five with a goal difference of 20-3 but as Katy said a little bit earlier it is a cup final anything can happen but this is via cook looking to release Molly Kio K against lit Kio oh good play by Erin lit that’s why she’s been included in the side physical battle between the two back to Watkins and the ball is cleared by rexon excellent defensive play there by love it yeah she’s a really aggressive player she loves a 1 V one and she knows she’s going to have a work cut out against kho this evening but so important the Rex and they win those One V one B battles and at the moment that’s exactly what they’re doing plenty of time for shobon Walsh to play the ball forward but there’s an offside flag against Mika cook Michelle portelli on the right hand side with the flag up immediately isn’t it wonderful to see all of officials all female officials first time in Welsh women’s Cup history ktie yeah we talk about visibility for young girls to see about them being able to to achieve their dreams and believe footballers but there’s other roles within the game as well there’s coaches refereeing yes it was great to see an all female lineup to show that that is a a possibility in a career path if that’s one that you wish to take and the team led by a wonderful role model in cheral Foster as well I’m like like [Music] that the opportunity here to play the ball forward she does so to Phoebe Davis Davis again looking for the cross and the Run of Cara Jones you could see exactly what she was trying to do there yeah and really good movement from Cara Jones she’s been really alert and KN Opening 12 minutes a shock start really ahead of Rosie Hughes we expect to see Rosie Hughes in that starting line n and also the influential T TJ Dickens who who’s so good so physical in Midfield for them also left out in order to include Amber lightford on the uh on the left hand side but maybe lford is included to try and counter the attacking play of Fon price yeah but also then the Steve daily has those options coming off the bench this need to make more of an impact we talk about the the depth of a squad so having those sort of players with that experience to come on the pitch at any time is great for rexam to have those options Ian darish the cardi city manager looking to lift the Welsh cup for the third time the problem with the laces for Karen Chamberlain that was an excellent save by Karen Chamberlain we were talking about the excellent play by Cara Jones and the low shot but it was well saved too yeah she come off line really quickly didn’t she and close that angle that Cara Jones had to work with but looks as if cardi City are going to have plenty of possession at the back the three Central Defenders of all the time in the world you can see the spread of players in red as the ball is played white looking for Mika cook but again cook is penalized yeah a little bit of a too much of an aggressive jump there from cook you can see Cardiff looking for that switch espe she just comes in too late there with that elbow foul on Fuller she’s been another good addition to rexim strengthening their depth adding more experience to a very young [Music] team again excellent Play No offside this time Oakley in opportunity to shoot here it is and she does get the opening goal ran Oakley no offside Rex him looking across to the L but no flag and with a quarter of an hour play a simple finish by ran Ole and Cardiff City are ahead rexam nil Cardiff City one you say a simple finish Mike but that’s what you call a striker who is in great form the ball comes in there’s no one around her she knows exactly what she wants to do she creates the space and finds the back of the net with a composed calm finish and that’s exactly what ran Ole can [Music] do yeah she does well gets the shot across the goalkeeper deith Morgan calm finished looking for the corner well taken goal by rihan Ole I did say that rexon were looking for an offside flag I think it was Olivia Fuller that played them on we were just praising Fuller for the way that she started this game but she was the one left behind and playing Oakley on side yeah and this is just about being clinical isn’t it when you have those opportunities taking your chances [Music] Mistake by Price this is Gibbard Gibbard forward to light foot Rex him looking to strike back quickly and Cara Jones is there first holds the ball up well this is the captain Karen Allen Allen to Cara Jones the first thought was to strike for goal and that’s what she’s done yeah we’ seen Cara Jones score an absolute screamer against Cardis City in the game at the Cardis City Stadium so we know that she has that in her locker wanting to test the goalkeeper but just couldn’t direct It On Target Ember Bayon is the player receiving treatment I think there was a clash perhaps with her own player there right in front of us ktie did yeah know I I missed that one but she definitely looks like she’s struggling there she was cardo City’s players player of the season this season they’re such an important player in this team they’re going to want to see her be able to come back onto the field move from swans to Cardiff last summer has 42 caps across all the age groups including full Welsh International cup she’s really felt that one I think it’s a bit of a dead leg that she’s got you can see what Rex them are doing they’re letting the center backs have possession and choosing the time when to press for the ball Allan Allan for rexa plays the ball forward but car Jones an isolated figure up front oh physical tackle strong Tackle by ran Oakley the goal score [Music] it yeah but but but that’s what you I wanted to see from rum in this game being a lot more aggressive I think they gave cter City too much respect at the game at the cter City Stadium Del Morgan on the ball no chance with that strike from ran Ole now this time Karen Allen plays It Forward looking for car helps the ball on towards Amber throw to Rex last touch coming off fion price will it be a case Katy of rexam looking to stay in the game in this first half yeah absolutely they have to stay in the game I think what they’re doing at the moment they before that goal they actually weren’t doing a lot wrong their shape was very good they were very organized they weren’t giving Cardiff much room to build the possession it’s a strong tackle on on Emon and it will be a card for Brook Ken first yellow card of the afternoon goes to Brook K yeah I don’t think she can have any complaints here it’s one of those she’s she’s lucky she’s very lucky there in my opinion it’s Reckless Brook K’s an experienced player in England International under 16 17 and 18 former West Ham and wolves player joined in January she slid in there dangerously on Emma Bayon lucky to receive a yellow and not a red yeah there there was no need to go to ground for me to win that ball she’s lucky that Emma Bayan managed to get up without being seriously hurt that was a reckless challenge good skill by K and it’s Walsh that conceded the first corner of the Welsh Cup Final of 2024 and it goes in favor of rexam 1 n down following the goal by ran o after quar of an hour and it’s Lily Jones trotting over to take this one and it might be so important here for Rex to try and capitalize on set piece now worked it and in it comes right on top of the goalkeeper TB Davis is there she goes to ground and the shot is just past the post no foul on Phoebe Davis but uncertainty in the Cardiff City defense and in particular the goalkeeper Karen Chamberlain yeah it was messy for Cardis city was a great delivery in keeper she makes the first Contact Phoebe Davis wins the second ball and again it’s an opportunity the rexam should have taken Chamberlain Dives there takes out Phoebe Davis any chance of a penalty there KT or is that being no I I think they did they didn’t appeal for it though did they chald Foster was very cool officiated a goal kick only but I thought Karen Chamberlain dived at the feet of Phoebe Davis and took her took her out as she was looking to strike but the best opportunity there for rexam from the set play the corner by Jones that’s two chances now rexam have had I think sometimes that’s a difference isn’t it between a top team and A Team who’s still finding their way ball played long by uh Fuller it’s interesting that L is the player that they’ve selected uh she’s come in to play at Center back alongside Karen Allan that means Fuller is playing as a right back Phoebe Davis as a left back I think Phoebe Davis has been fantastic for rexon this season again she won Players player of the season in their Awards evening been consistently um a consistent performing for rexon it can be psychological as well as we you saw in the Adan trophy final when the underdog Swansea City went ahead they had something to hang on to it’s for reum now it’s hanging on in this game and again ran Oakley comes off her line and Del Moran has shout it and called and she does collect but every time ran Oakley gets the ball she’s playing full of confidence that early goal would have done it a world of good yeah as soon as she picks the ball up you know something’s going to happen she’s such a dangerous player she has Pace she can score goals and she’s a player that really you want to double up on FY again out to Oakley but this time Phoebe Davis is there she plays it back to deith Morgan she goes to clear as far as possible but back it comes pressure increasing on the rexen Defenders and this is Fuller it is only Cara Jones who’s leading the line now he just praising Phoebe Davis for her fantastic season but she’s got to be aware and open her body a bit more so she can see where ran Ole is price they’re happy to have the ball to show patience and to feed the wide players again Kio On The Run SOA cook on the run and cook is up quickly and she turns the Defenders she does have support she goes to ground no foul oh and San Watkins a wild challenge there on Rebecca Pritchard it will be a second card of the afternoon and it’ll go this time to Watkins yeah she she looks like she’s complaining there saram Watkins but it’s late it’s not as Reckless as as the K’s uh [Music] fowl great little Megs there but it’s it’s late it’s a yellow card she can have no complaints there no wild lunge there and the yellow card to sarin [Music] Watkins plays It [Music] Forward Rex finding it hard to get the ball down and this is an opportunity will go and start once again phbe Davis creates the angle Ken Allen oh Allen is taken out by ran Oakley a foul is awarded she’s caught in the face by Oakley as she turned straight into her Katy what did you make of that on my initial thought was it was two players colliding with each other you can see she’s bringing the ball out to defense here yeah it’s a free kick isn’t it did you find that as being accidental I think it it was two players it was Rano CLE running into her could have she got out of the way she’s going for the ball could have she got out the way I don’t know it was a clumsy clumsy challenge there’s Rosie hes and the Rex substitutes doing some stretching Allan is up takes the free kick in sorry Mike you go no I was just saying it’s interesting that Rex maybe haven’t had that opportunity to get Amber lightford into the game as much as they’d like to yeah I think she’s working hard defensively at the moment she’s helping out uh Phoebe Davis [Music] defense again the free kickers awarded to Cardiff City on the edge of the Box 27 minutes played and it’s Olivia Fuller who’s asking how is that a free kick well we’ll see here yeah M look she’s in the thick of it again isn’t she she likes the cut inside I’m not sure if there’s much contact there from filler I agree with her I’d have to have a look again to see if there is actually any contact made on Michaela cook and it’s interesting cheral Foster not showing a card for that foul but it does give Cardiff an opportunity to strike from afar and it’s cook over the ball there is a wall of four for rexam this is dangerous they rexam do not want to concede again and they won’t because that’s a wasted opportunity 28 minutes played rexam nil card of City one and it’s great to see so many people have come together at Rodney parade for the 2024 Bo energy Welsh Cup Final and we have an official attendance of 1,7 134 and interestingly that’s 500 more than last week’s men’s final between Connor key and the new Saints wow interesting it just goes to show the the want and and thirst for women’s football in Wales the affid been working really hard to promote the game and it’s great to see so many people turning out for the Cup Final and for the in tendences to keep increasing and if I’m right Katie I think there were over a thousand as well at the adran trophy final between Cardiff and swans I think it was 1088 that afternoon at P pen aont so excellent attendances for both Cup finals and the growing game the growing women’s game oh opportunity of a Cara Jones oh she knew exactly what she wanted to do there with Karen Chamberlain off her line as we talked about attendances Cara Jones had one thing on her mind an early shot in at the Cardiff City goal but if we go back to that uh attendance just for a minute ktie it just shows the growing nature of Welsh women’s football there’s been a great restructure in terms of the number of teams eight teams in the premere and then the adun North and adun South what do you make of everything yeah well we we look right at the top don’t we the women’s international team and the attendances they’ve had but it’s important to grow the domestic league as well and it’s something that they’ve been trying to improve the quality and standard in over the years we’ve seen now there’s three teams who are semi-professional in this league so you know those things are now coming into place we know that a Grassroots level there’s more funding going into that so that full cycle right at the top right at the bottom is important that the money is invested all over and you we’re seeing it in attendances we’re seeing it in the standards we’re seeing at the top with the the national team doing so much better um yeah so it’s great to see wonderful to see and the weather is also improving here at Rodney Pere is a filthy Journey Down from West Wales this afternoon through the uh the light rain and drizzle but the sun is trying to peek through the clouds here in early May and it’s Hannah power on the ball to Fon price the cardiv city women ahead by a goal to nil ran Oakley shot cross shot opening the scoring as they look to achieve an outstanding treble Fuller across here is Karen Allen Allen head up looks for Pritchard Pritchard clever play but runs into Meg boen and it’s Bowen again who’s there 18 years of age but now an experienced Welsh International played in mova against the hosts Lithuania and North Macedonia for Wales under 19 team’s performed really well missed the last game of the season yeah she has great potential magb and we’ve seen other players in this league who’s played Youth Level for Wales and then being picked up by bigger clubs Olivia Fran is at Ponte PRI last season now at Manchester United she I think she’s definitely on that same journey magbo and if she keeps progressing the way the way that she is well that was a super play by Phoebe Davis she read that pass and she was determined to win that tackle and she turns her side A free kick I think rexam look like a completely different team than what we’ve seen at the carder City Stadium defensively they’re so much more organized compact aggressive and I think they’ve really frustrated card of city in these first 30 minutes the last set piece taken by Lily Jones read to that opportunity for Phoebe Davis she lifts it into the box and Brook K is poor first touch there but in comes Lily Jones again K turn but turns into trouble to Emma boen and then it’s Watkins who plays it forward but it’s over the touch line for a reom throw I think that’s the next bit for Ream’s game now can they be a bit more composed when they do have the ball it’s those finer details keeping the ball and putting car Defender more pressure I was going to say a nice little triangle there but first from Olivia Fuller down to joined from filed former Liverpool player power again they look for price price who spent mostly the half in her own half which is not what you associate with Fon price who’s usually up and down the touch Line This is Oakley Oakley turning into Gibbard Gibbard does well there to frustrate the scorer oh and is PB Davis back to Del Morgan it’s rather short but deith Morgan does well because Eliza Ki was in strongly on deith Morgan and that ball could have gone anywhere KT yeah and those are the opportunities Liza colly will definitely look to to jump on to it’s a poor back pass luckily deith Morgan is quick off a line to to clear it it’s Brave goalkeeping there to come and clear our lines but they the moments I’m talking about being better in possession again excellent distribution by deth Morgan and it’s Pritchard looking for the Run of Cara Jones K’s in behind the Defenders and Hannah power had to come across to clear for cardiv City and everything coming from the original distribution by Del Morgan yeah it’s important that your goalkeeper is confident and comfortable with their feet and they can be the first line of attack for you rexon throw putting pressure on the cardiio city defense but it’s Mika cook who clears love it this time under pressure from Eliza Ki but across comes Karen and Fuller does really well to keep that ball in and the ball played inside that was a good pass from Cara Jones and Rex him retain possession well ball played into Phoebe Davis excellent first touch poor second touch they do continue the move through Lily Jones Allan strong tackled by Allen and they look to spread the play out to to light foot and you could see exactly what they were doing there and that was great play by rexam that’s the best passage of passing we’ve seen from rexam this afternoon yeah much more patient play much more composed they have the ability to do it it’s just that self-belief that they can actually do it you can see what they’ve been working on these last four weeks Gard Gard crosses edge of the box and it’s Fuller who swings a left Peg at it K is in there as well and cardio City do clear and you feel that there is an opportunity here for rexam were they to score the next goal and this is Fuller Fuller in towards Lightfoot light foot competing against price again is Karen Allen who wins the 50/50 in Midfield out to Fuller Fuller encourage to lift the ball into the Cardiff City defense where power is there Cara Jones looking to set it up for K but there’s an opportunity for Kiff to break through Emma Bay they calm it [Music] down and they do calm it down and they do retain possession that they were under under quite under the cost there cardi City from some quality crosses from Fuller yeah they look disorganize at times then card if they couldn’t clear their lines they weren’t winning the second ball but again credit for rexon they’re putting them under pressure that’s good play by Kio to pass power B now ends the [Music] center Allan into the feet of Cara Jones Jones looking to release canes again Karen Allen is there rexam growing in confidence here that’s something Cara Jones does really well she operates really well in those tight spaces she got great footwork but again it’s that final pass this is cook cook Speedy left wing back but Fuller is there again Dall Morgan happy to clear into the Cardiff City half but I’m with only 8 minutes to go before the break Kate you do feel that the second goal is going to be CL critical for both sides psychologically yeah for rexon they definitely don’t want to concede now before halime but if they can try and you know keep putting C upend into this pressure you know that girl there Rosie Hughes I bet she’s itching to get onto this pitch yeah and if you were Steve Dale the rexim manager how long would you leave it before you would you would you bring her on at halftime would you partner her with Cara Jones would you go for it or would you just sort of say right let’s just sit in and try and keep it one mil this is price price crosses early well it’s e easy for me to say standing up here mik but I definitely put it on yeah you know she’s their top goal scorer she puts Defenders Under Pressure I’d have her and Cara Jones against those back three aarda City and really put them under pressure when you think of the the pressure and the opportunities that have been created with only one Striker think what you’d be able to do with two yeah and you want to occupy more than one Center back make it ult for them then they have to make a decision at the moment you got three center backs for one Striker put them under pressure make them make a decision I think the players wearing blue the three center backs have had more touches of the ball than anybody else on the field in this first half power shobon Walsh and Meg boen and this is boen boen that’s a clever little pass now there is an opportunity to play in Ran oh ran Oakley and here comes the pass can she keep the ball in she can is that a quality cross to follow she drives it across the 6yd Box K kho trying to set up Bon and that was right in the corner and a Super Save by D Morgan but Rian oakle scorer of the first really created an excellent opportunity for Cardiff City to add a second yeah that was really a short build bu up play from Cardiff like you said Mike they got three center backs who who are comfortable in possession to build up play good Linker play there from kho and you can see what banan’s trying to do she’s trying to place her into the bottom corner but it’s a good save from dth Morgan well despite the dominance of possession 5 minutes before halftime this is Cardiff City’s first Corner into towards the near post it’s Dropped In under the bar and Del Morgan collects she looks to clear because there are three against three here with rexam leaving three attackers up and it’s a race between cook and K Cook gets their first in to Meg boen but she loses possession oh super little touches the P towards light foot this is flight foot on her right foot into Cara Jones drives it against the Cardiff City Defenders but there was a flick in there by Cara Jones that was super stuff by the rexam center forward yeah that was class play there from Cara Jones what a touch that was she is a very special player for this team and you throw Rosie Hughes into this mix they will put cter city under press they will cause problems oh Kio skips fast L it Kio colly left the middle Kio goes a s forward again I think it’s Clip Del Morgan and it will be a corner and D Morgan is keeping rexam in the bo energy Welsh cup super opportunity for the girl from the Cayman Islands oh what an opportunity that was for K she cuts inside she has so much time but what a save by dth Morgan that’s really interesting is the play flows from one end of the field to the other Katy again we see Rex out of picture leave three forwards up despite it being a cardio City corner I love that though yeah that’s brilliant Watkins with the cross again it’s Cardiff City who get there first through Walsh and there is an offside and the free kick is taken from the RO long Place unfortunately for Phoebe Davis and rexon but that’s a really interesting tactic from Steve Dale despite conceding the corner on two occasions leaving three forwards up yeah well he’s trusting his big center backs and his goalkeeper to command and dominate that area Morgan out to love it now pitard is available Cara Jones again the onew is played beautifully and Jones is away here and she looks to lift the ball over Karen Chamberlin what Vision this Center forward has yeah I think we’ve seen in previous games that Chamberlain she has quite a high starting position and she has a little looker she just couldn’t generate enough power to get it over Chamberlain I really have enjoyed watching the contribution of Carter Jones in this first half she’s a real threat ball played forward by Cardiff City Fuller is around and it’s Phoebe Davis Cardiff City lead by a goal to nil Rian Oakley’s 15th minute goal separating the teams but rexam have come well well into well in this final they’ve created opportunities possibly the better of the opportunities in the second in this first half absolutely they’re definitely finishing this half on a high they haven’t been able to capitalize on one of the opportunities they’ve had but they be going in halim full of confidence knowing that they are definitely in this game Allan going back towards her own goal little bit pass goes out for a throw critical part of the game now as Ain L concedes that throw in the final seconds of the first half throw into Cardiff City price with it kho uses her strength to keep possession and it comes from Power Gibbard is there and Gibbard throws it out to the right hand side where carret Chamberlain is well off her line and she’s just happy to throw it over the touch line and there will be one minute of added time at the end of an exciting first half not as one-sided as perhaps I feared at the beginning of this game I thought Cardiff City would dominate possession they did so right at the beginning but apart from Rian Oakley’s goal and Dell Morgan’s Excellency But Here Comes Gibbard and Gibbard again looking to strike from distance but off Target this time rexam Katy are well in this game yeah they certainly are It’s a Great Entertaining end to end game isn’t it and I think Steve Dale have really set his team up to put cardi into pressure defensively they’ve been fantastic and they’ve really been able to execute the game plan well plenty to ponder for both coaches as we approach halftime this is mean boen and I think ciff will be happy to take the lead and there is the final whistle of this first half blown by cheral Foster but the advantage is with the bluebirds at halftime the opening goal scored after 15 minutes by Rian Oakley an excellent individual goal a calm cross shot gives Ian darish aside the lead but at after time here at Rodney parade rexam are well in it it’s still rexam nil C of City one at the [Applause] break e e e e e e [Applause] Rex for [Music] [Music] well fore um [Music] problemis umak and just cover thre [Applause] for foree for for par yeah Helen Ward it’s great to see you here today and wonderful to have your company so thank you for joining years Cardiff a goal ahead at the break it’s been tight though what do you make of the first half yeah the opening 15 minutes or so is a really evenly contested game I think Rex and had a really good opportunity I think Cara Jones up front for them has been a real handful but then on the flip side Cardiff took their opportunity a little bit of a laps in concentration perhaps from the the Rex and back line but hopefully he’s taken their goal really well and there’s a nice finish into the corner but rexon very much in the game and should be a really exciting second half yeah that next goal now is going to be crucial as isn’t it it is and you know when you’re when you’re a team that’s come up against you know they’ played each other a lot of times this season and Cardiff have come out on top so they’ll be you know feeling very very confident but it’s important that rexam don’t think that the game’s done now and that they come out and attack that second half just as they did the first cuz there’s there’s more goals in this one for sure and you know rexon will be hoping they can get themselves back into it obviously we know you as a legend in that red shirt for Wales but you’re hearing an ambassad role today for the F how much are you enjoying that yeah it’s really nice I mean spending 15 years with my my life playing for Wales and it’s the proudest thing I’ve ever done um in my career it meant everything so to still be connected to the the association and you know coming to things like this and spending time with fans and just still feeling part of it is really important to me and you know I’ll do that for as long as I’m wanted Helen as I say it’s been wonderful to see you here and to have you company today and [Music] [Applause] he e e e e e e [Music] [Applause] all game [Music] team K Morgan Roberts welcome back to sco’s red button commentary here at Rodney parade Newport and the but energy Welsh women’s Cup Final where a halftime Cardiff City lead by a goal to nil ran oakle goal after 15 minutes separating the teams but it doesn’t tell half of the story of an exciting half where both sides have had opportunities for goal where Carter Jones has been quite outstanding leading the line for rexa keeping me company on co- commentary today is former Welsh International KY Sherwood KY what would have been said in the changing rooms at halftime I think for Ian darish he would have wanted his team to move the ball a bit quicker they’re quite slow moving the ball they’re making it too easy for rexim and I think for Steve Dale he would have been saying much more of the same please K Gibbard there with a little touch trying to find uh Cara Jones but it’s cardiv who build on that Far Side B runs out of room and the big question mark of course Katy is how long Steve Dale will leave it before he introduces top scorer Rosie Hills from the bench yeah that will be an interesting one and who she may come on for because at the moment you wouldn’t be taking off of Cara Jones would you you want them alongside each other ball played forward by city and love it does well there oh but some Doling on the ball by Fuller but rexam retain possession fortunate to do so love it and she’ll go back to Dell Morgan two excellent Saves by the goalkeeper for rexim keeping the dragons in the game and this is can K through the center circle looking with the ball forward again the Run of Mari Gibbard but it’s Kellen Chamberlin who wins that little race but another positive start by Rex at the beginning of the second half yeah and I think Steve Dale would have been telling his team that they actually have more time than they think they have on the ball so just being better in making those decisions when they do have possession three kick awarded to Cardiff City in the center circle the foul on Cook Steve Dale there again looking at his watch Ian Dar bisher not looking that confident but I’m sure he’s happy at least he’s got the one goal and this is cook cutting in and the shot straight at D Morgan very confident goalkeeper under Wales under 19’s goalkeeping coach yeah we got we got two teams as well who have on two different very two different Journeys we got card City who are going for the tra and it’s Ream’s first season in this adram premier league and they’ve got themselves to a Welsh Cup Final in their first season which is a fantastic achievement for them and of course the big change in Welsh women’s football in Wales this season has been the introduction of semi-professional contracts Cardiff City awarding Semi-Pro contracts to all of the squad 10 of the reom squad were awarded Semi-Pro contracts yeah it’s important to say that you know these players still work as well alongside that so their dedication and commitment you know is fantastic but with those semi-professional contracts they do have more time more professional um professionalism around the game and we’re seeing the standards definitely improve because of that there was a clever little run there by Lily Jones through Midfield trying to pass that ball through to Mari Gibbard but it’s out for a goal kick as addressing f price we see her so much in the attacking third for Cardiff City she’s the top assist contributor for the adram Premier League this season where she’s got 11 she had 17 last season but in this game and this afternoon she’s been forced back by the threat I think of amberite hood out in the left hand side yeah credit to rexon they’ve really done their homework and their analysis to make sure that Fon price and M looker they don’t allow themselves allow them to get into those Advanced positions it was cook lost possession there and the foul on Rebecca Pritchard means that rexen can lift this free kick into the danger area through Lily Jones and all their corners and free kicks have caused some problems for the three Central Defenders of Cardiff City and it’s Lily Jones Lift It Forward first of the ball and first to react is Emma Bayon but again Carter City concede possession and it’s Lily Jones who crosses and cook who clears no offside here against ran o CL Lett and pressure but L it stands her ground well but distribution she gave the ball away but won the tackle again she’s there again har love it and her pass looking to release the dangerous car Jones yeah Third Time Lucky there for L good defending but again it’s that composure when you do win the ball recycle possession and keep it take the pressure off your team well on the evidence of the first p 50 minutes you wouldn’t say that these sides had played each other five times and Cardiff City would have won all five Encounters this season and by an aggregate of 20 goals to three rexam are certainly in this game and up for it Katy yeah you can definitely see the the development of rexon throughout the season I think they’ve had to learn quickly in this league but they’ve had such an impressive start in this league and a fantastic finish for them finishing in the top four and I think there’s going to be a lot more to come from them next season Cris passing by cardi City but it’s reum who retain possession this time ball played forward again they look to release Pritchard Pritchard can she get to the ball before it crosses the touch line she can can she cross well into towards the near post again towards Cara Jones and on the volley it’s it towards light foot did she had the last touch she did but it was a wonderful effort by rexa the attack coming down the right hand side through Pritchard Cara Jones on the near post yeah it’s a great delivery in Cara Jones she keeps the ball alive so dis kind and it’s another opportunity isn’t it for rexim it was can’s with the acrobatics and then amber light foots right foot shot grazing the upright meanwhile Mika cook sprinting down the left hand side and it’s Fuller’s under pressure and Fuller stands her ground well and it’s cook that takes Fuller out and not for the first time a foul by Michaela cook perhaps the talking to from cheral Foster or experienced referee yeah I think that’s twice now Michaela cook she’s lost the ball and in frustration she’s given away fowl I think she won’t be lucky next time nice miles between cook and Foster this great defending from fer here uses her body really well to get in between the player and the ball and it’s a late tackle she’s very lucky there Michaela cook sensible refereeing by cheral Foster when you have played the game to the level that cheral Foster has you can take into consideration what the players are thinking as well in the conditions Etc but this is Gibbard for rexam out towards light foot light foot on her right foot cuts inside this is k k on a yellow card strong in the tackle coms into a blue wall there loose pass by Kio and it’s picked up by lot again the ball is played forward and power and pressure from light foot but price is there to in support and City keep possess ession through Oakley but temporarily only Reon player goes to ground Phoebe Davis she’s asking for a free kick she’s not going to get one I think the frustrations are coming in a little bit with CER City rexam are really disrup in their play they’re really making it difficult for them to build they’re getting first to the ball as well but it’s this time it’s Kio for Cardiff City Kio on the turn turns into two rexon players Allen picks up the ball Allan needs to get a head up she does so into car Jones Pritchard is free on the right hand side Pritchard an opportunity to shoot oh super covering Tackle by Cardiff City and I think it’s Emma ban on KT isn’t it who came across yeah it was a great recovery tackle from Bayan lightf into the safe hands of Kellen Chamberlain but it’s rexam who asking all the questions at the beginning of the second half yeah it was a great opportunity just that touch just got away from her and allowed banan to get back and make a great recovery tackle see this touch too heavy here and it gives the defender a chance to come in and clear the ball cook for City Ball played forward but on this greasy service it skips into the hands of deith Morgan rexam he have picked up the pace in the second half through to Gibbard Gibbard looking for the Run of K well K had timed the Run perfectly there was no offside the ball and the pass a little heavy yeah they’re definitely putting the pressure on Cardiff they’re dominating possession like you said they’ve raised the tempo and at the moment cter City they can’t seem to find their passes to knock that ball into the corner and it’s dribbling away will it go over the goal line no it’s doesn’t because Deli Morgan is there but she’s cleared straight to f price and price gets a head up but a wasted pass you could see what she was trying to do she was trying to pick out ran Oakley who switched over to this left hand side yeah she was looking for the ambitious switch there wasn’t she but just couldn’t execute it well the first substitution of the afternoon is for rexen but it’s not the one You’re Expecting it’s Brook K who’s been influential in Midfield she leaves the field young Brook K and taking her place 17-year-old Annie small who’s joined from the faw girls Academy North and played in the five games since the split so Annie small is on Brook K is off and still no sign of Rosie Hughes as yet yeah it looks like she’s going into that number 10 roll to try and Link her with with Cara Jones but what a great opportunity for her to come on in a Welsh Cup Final and try and help your team get back into a game here’s possession for you 61% possession for rexam in this second half only 39 for Cardiff shows the story of the determination of these rexan women to get back into this boot Welsh cap final they’ve never won this competition finalists in 2008 their first season back in the top tier of Welsh women’s football as you said Katy great achievement to have reached this final but now they really are well in it and this is Oakley the scorer pressure coming on to the Defenders but this is Hannah power all the time in the world this time to pick out sarin Watkins Watkins looking to spread the ball wide the run is on from PA Kio and there’s a pull on the shirt of the rexon defender she’s gone down by Molly kho interesting character Molly kho coming over from the Kean Islands on a on trial last summer but is a real star back in her own country where she’s a full International yeah she’s also a full International in rugby as well so you can see maybe she got the games a little bit mixed up there but no she’s been a great addition to this team she scores goals she assists and it’s really interesting that somebody crosses well crosses the world really to try and improve her standard and she certainly done has done so during this season with nine [Applause] goals yeah and it’s a brave move isn’t it moving over here when you don’t know anybody like she said she’s a role model and she wants to inspire other other young girls from the Kum Islands to know that they have the potential to do that if they love a sport go for it follow your dreams and she’s exactly doing that and she’s showing other girls that that is a possibility well we couldn’t see toing Glass Mountain when we arrived today but the clouds have dispersed and some lovely scenes here at Rodney parade a cloud of crowd of over 1,700 and to reiterate its importance 500 more than the Connor key new Saints final last week now the playoff matches for a place in Europe continue on scoro next week on Friday it’s karon against Cardiff met and on Saturday it’s New Town against Pont the Saturday game the lth of May at 12:00 live on s4c with English language commentary some exciting games to look forward to right at the end of this season and of course talking of Europe Katy with Cardiff being the Champions they will again represent Wales in the Champions League no luck last season where they came AC proper in Lithuania but uh do you think this side is a stronger outfit than that that played uh in Lithuania yeah I think so and I think they would have learned their lessons knowing that they have to step up um they’re coming up against um higher quality opposition so learning those lessons and having such a successful season hopefully they can take that momentum into um those European games look there at the pictures of ran Oakley putting Cardiff City ahead after only 15 minutes of Play We he the worst B rex having conceded so early it was expertly taken by ran Oakley real cool finish across goalkeeper Deli Morgan into the far corner we reach the hour mark still 1- n to Cardiff City Karen Allen leaves it for lit lit across well played Ain L it nice pass to Captain Allen she gives the b ball away rexim certainly trying to feed Rebecca Pritchard out on this right hand side and across comes M boen showing her strength and speed 18-year-old Bo in weling the 19 International that was a great piece of play from rexon then late tackle here I think certainly there I think on yeah a late tackle there from Collie on the captain Karen Allen who’s just come back on the pitch not quite sure how the the linesman has missed that one it’s rather Wasted by Rex and the long throw by Fuller helped on no one had read that touch by Mari Gibbard but talking of a laser coli top scorer in the janeo adram Premier this season with 17 goals we’ve seen very little of her though well I don’t know if she’s even had a shot and goal has she you think about those big players Eliza coli Fon price sarin Watkins have we seen a great deal of them in this game and that’s credit to Rex him here is uh Watkins Watkins lifts the ball forward this is Lily Jones Jones slow to react there was the ball was at her feet but rexon do keep possession they do have a cool customer in Deli Morgan between the sticks experienced goalkeeper this is car Jones AC quiet to second half for Cara Jones and again the ball is lifted forward sure if Deli Morgan had a problem there with the sun usually associate the goalkeeper looking into the sun orless a hat on or a camp on or whatever well there was no Su when we started this game was it I think that just sums up the weather in Wales G going into a a quieter passage at the moment and probably Su card be better peing yeah cuz rexon they come out they hit the ground running didn’t they they put card under pressure early question s still question continues to be asked how long will Steve D leave it before bringing Rosie Hughes on the tactics that have been employed by rexen have certainly worked since they conceded that first goal and they have added a little bit of punch in the second half again Cara Jones working so hard be interested to see if they sacrifice Jones for Rosie Hills or as Katy mentioned perhaps playing both both of them up to try and gamble for The Equalizer well I am trying to keep an eye on what’s going on on the other side of the field scene if Rosie Hughes is warming enough she is actually speaking to Steve Dale at the moment so maybe we’ll we will see a change very soon it’s wonderful to see so many young players gracing Rodney parade this afternoon in what is a historical competition when you have people like Annie small and Cara Jones Lily Jones me Bo so much young talent coming through the domestic game but the question is will they need to leave Wales in order to step up people yeah that has been the question haven’t it you know will we see a player be taken into the the Welsh Squad who has come from this league my answer right now would be no I think they need to be playing at a higher level to be able to be in contention for that but we have seen the likes of Olivia Francis phb P magb be selected for youth teams and we’ve just seen Olivia Francis now who’s was at ponti PRI um is now at Manchester United Academy and she’s just had a first call up to the full women’s Squad so we know that the pathway is there and I do think this league is a great stepping stone to learn your trade but hopefully in years to come it’ll become become more than a stepping stone and interesting that Annie small has made the move from the faw girls Academy North uh joining reum for the second uh half of the Season uh as that is the official pathway isn’t it for these M yeah and you know the pathway is there um the faw have worked hard over the years to ensure that there’s all the fawm Fuller did well to keep that in pad little bit isolated out here on the the right hand side but again City give the ball away and it’s Gibbard looking to split the Defenders ball light foot Price’s clearance is only only reaches Phoebe Davis opportunity to play the ball Square to Fuller Fuller to head up looking for a quality cross in towards [Music] Gibbard swing in the Miss almost by Lily Jones but it’s Annie small who collects but there is a hand ball or an perhaps against Richard in the mo like to see a bit more urgency from carder city they’re slow they’re moving the ball really slow there’s not enough movement from the front three they’re all very flat that was the right type of well what I say f price beats her opponent the pass is such a lazy one though isn’t it giving possession away is lazy um it’s not their usual slick clean passing but again it’s about the movement as well you can’t make those passes if if the people in front of you are not moving kho kns it wide ran is in an offside position so a bit of a cross looking for cook cook is strong in the tackle but so is pitard the cross comes Shor wals the captain and that’s some clever play by Bay don’t feed cook and again his Fuller that’s there and that’s a lovely little pass threaded through to Lily Jones Jones between the [Music] Defenders PL coming across again Fuller crosses early this time edge of the Box ball is cleared by Cardiff City but it will be another reom throw and so the pressure increases and here comes the influential change and it’s Mari giard who leaves the field she’s put a real shift in between Midfield and attack this afternoon and it’s Rosy H the star of this rexam team 13 goals prior to the split she’s got 15 League goals she went got the winner against the new Saints in the semifinal at Flint can she add to her total this afternoon and set this up for a dramatic finish Hugh on Gibbard off so Cara Jones remains on the field yeah so Rosie Hughes she’s gone in that Central position that number nine rooll and Cara Jones she’s drifted into a wide forward and Pritchard she’s gone into the into the back four so Shuffle around to get Rosie Hughes on on the pitch Jones the play by pretard into Fuller Fuller at a Super Bowl for the Run of Rosie hes her first opportunity hes looking for support Fuller is there and that’s an excellent pass out towards Lily Jones but the ball is cleared downfield and it’s two against two and it’s the pace of Oakley against L Oakley is in Oakley but super play by Rebecca Pritchard tracking back Pritchard who’s played on the right hand side but this time tracking back excellently to deny ran Oakley a second yeah there a straight ball over the top love it she’s struggling to keep up here with Oakley but this is what your teammates are for to help you recover and Pritchard does that exactly great defensive work to get back there hes feeds P Davis Davis out to light foot right foot cuts inside on her right foot she’s looking for support she picked out Annie small small to Cara Jones oh again super play and it’s Mika cook who’s there in the first place she’s looks up towards cheral Foster for a free kick nothing doing all with rexam love it to Cara Jones Jones crosses towards the far post the back Fleck by Hughes finds light foot the support is there through Phoebe Davis Davis trying to drive into the cardio City box denied by sarin Watkins and the throw goes Cardiff City’s way and again good play by rexon yeah they’re really putting cardi Under Pressure aren’t they Cara Jones in this position now I expected to see a cutting inside and really driving at those center backs from that wide position be interesting to see if cter City make a change bring on some fresh legs plenty of choice for card City on the bench Lisa Owen Kelly walut Holly Smith Kelly adamsy of experience there as well we have 20 minutes left of this be energy Welsh women’s Cup Final here at Rodney parade but if there is an equalizer there will be no extra time we’ll go straight to penalties as in all the domestic competitions in Wales is this the yellow card it is yeah she stopped rexon being able to play quickly there they want to keep up the tempo and the urgency and ran Oakley just sticks her fit out to stop them playing that early free kick so yellow card for Rian Oakley to go with her Welsh Cup goal was something rexon have done really well in this second half whenever carder City pick up the ball they swarm the ball they really make it difficult for them to operate in those Central areas Del Morgan sends it long and direct it’s headed away but collected by Fuller towards Annie small with the ball played forward and they are going to have to gamble that little bit more now rexa it’s l across L it to Phoebe Davis allall played [Music] forward look it again that intercepts that pass again Lily Jones finding some space between the lines Fuller she look to split the Defenders there looking for Cara Jones but Jones wented the ball to feat again three players three rexon players around Emma Bon and they win the ball back Jones while she was up for the Run of Lily Jones with Hannah power the collect into the feet of S Watkins she looks up and that’s a beautiful pass in to the feet of Molly Kio Kio oh super play by Karen Allen the rexon captain I thought Kio was away there KT and looking to score the all important second goal but Karen Allen super defensive play yeah this is the captain leading by example isn’t it was defense splitting pass by Watkins but she gets back in she uses that physicality to Shield the ball and take the pressure off her team she had to be be really precise there in that tackle in the Box it’s Watkins with across from the corner and there’s the header down and it’s in for there’s an offside flag against ran o I’m not sure whether she got that Final Touch well the ball was played in and the assistant flag went straight up yeah I think it’s Eliza coli who makes the first Contact but you can see there Rio kich is in an offside POS position oh did she need to touch it she she didn’t need to touch it it was going in I think oh so unfortunate for Eliza coli and for Cardiff City women that could have been the all important second goal that took things away from rexam is that is that a bit of luck that reom needs well there we go we’ve got just over 15 minutes to play K loses out to Annie small small excellent play by the 17-year-old into Fuller Fuller head up spreads It Wide looking for Amber Lightfoot can she keep the ball in well she does so but now she needs support she’s done really well to find Lily Jones and rexam have done well to keep the possession here Rosie hilles on as a substitute [Music] I’m sure confidence is increasing amongst the Rex women can they believe that they can get this equalizer with 15 minutes to play and light foot is there and where’s the goalkeeper going it’s Karen Allen is Way Way Karen Chamberlain way off her line and she’s saved by the assistant flag Michel portelli’s flag offside officiated against Amber light foot well you want you want your goalkeeper to make early decisions don’t you but she committed to coming out but like you said save by the offside there Chamberlain well there is a change for card City and it’s ran Oakley the goal scorer who’s leaving the field with 15 minutes to play and on in her place wearing two is Lisa Owen has joined Cardiff City women in 2014 has won two League championships in three Welsh cups could be on the verge of a treble yeah it looks as though Michaela cook has gone into that wide forward position and Lisa Owen has dropped in at at the fullback and fil price has switch sides interesting the attacker is off and a Defender is on they can feel the pressure coming on the Defenders and feeling perhaps that the three Central Defenders needed a bit of support Katy yeah Lisa Owen she’s got great energy she’s got great pace and I think she’s going to try and help out with the amber light foot who’s been causing problems this whole game wondering how close that offside flag was cuz I was looking at the cross well the ball that was spread out towards Amber like foot perhaps she was offside there we are there’s a foul here by Olivia Fuller you got to give credit to the referee shell Foster she hasn’t got much wrong has she in this game again it’s the right decision excellent refereeing by the most experienced referee that we have on the circuit B play forward but too much on that from being we mustn’t forget the two wonderful s e e e e e Rosie Hughes can pounce on it C they try to play it short and then good they’re asking and looking around at each other this is where you need your experienced players to step up calm everyone down and just get back to doing the basics noan ball pitard strong in the tackle keeps possession goes to ground in hard as well Lily Jones but L it passes it straight to price an opportunity for a Counterattack here sarin Watkins and seen the Run Far Side by Mika cook the Speedy cook but across comes Phoebe Davis oh what an excellent Tackle by Phoebe Davis but Fuller gives away possession tiredness coming into play now KT as we enter the last eight minutes yeah that was a fantastic recovery run and Tackle by Phoebe Dave she timed that so well but then they win the ball back and they give it straight back to Cardiff this is where you need that composure just keep the ball recycle the ball go back to the go goalkeeper can rexon create the all important opportunity to draw a level and send this final into penalties or can Cardiff City add to ran Oakley’s goal after 15 minutes and ensure a domestic travel those are the questions that are going to be answered in the next 10 minutes or so a lot of pressure and a lot of stress on the two coaches and coaching staff LoveIt competes Caren Allen is strong back they go towards Del Morgan she clears low and super first touch there by Fuller to keep the move going and they feed Pritchard with Cara Jones out on the right hand side a late tackle on Pritchard did chal Foster see that the ball played forward Hannah power with a touch again Kellen changin is way off her line and she does well there to keep possession and to stop the corner now there will be a card and it’s going to be shown to Emma Bon for the late tackle on Rebecca Pritchard again that’s great referee in she let the play continue reom had possession and then she goes back to book Emma B and it’s the right decision again and it’s great to see that Pritchard is back up on her feet sensible refereeing once again by cheral Foster setting the standard Del Morgan here over the cardi City coaching staff yeah you can [Music] see rightly so a yellow card so competitive no one necessarily needle between the two sides despite the fact that they’ve played each other well this will be the sixth meeting of this domestic season with five wins oh and I think it’s Karen Allen who’s gone in strongly there and it’s Allen this time who sees yellow yeah there’s been aggressive and then there’s just being too overly eager to Wing the ball there maybe not for the foot for the elbow yeah Watkins for City she crosses but it’s too close to Del Morgan Rosie Hughes wants need support up in the rexam front line it’s three against one there and is headed Away by Walsh not once but twice Karen Allen has to be careful there there is a collision in Midfield and Allen has stayed down rexam Captain she slows slowly picks herself up out of shot ball played forward again looking for the Run of Cara Jones well with 5 minutes left and one n down if you’re Steve Dale ktie what do you do next you go for it you go to three at the back you really put the pressure on Cardiff what have you got to lose now there’s 5 minutes to go oh excellent play by Fuller to like fooot lford is in Chamberlin with a save Rosie Hills on her left hot was that the opportunity just as we spoke about going for Brook Rex and women that pass from Fuller defense splitting that’s a fantastic ball out to lightf again it’s a great opportunity but what fantastic goalkeeping we’ve seen here this evening from both goalkeepers fantastic ball in they’ve definitely had their opportunities rexon back on play price price crosses towards the far post and a swing and a miss by Michaela cook at the far post and another change four card [Music] City mly Molly K sacrificed in the last 5 minutes of what a season this young lady has had nine League goals in her first season in domestic football in Wales and taking her place the experienced Kelly Adams 15 Seasons with Swansea City come this afternoon’s official attendance 1734 confirmation also of the attendance of 1,700 justifying the decision perhaps to bring the be energy Welsh women’s Cup Final to Rodney par yeah fantastic crowd and what a fantastic game they’ve got to see here this Seas evening end to end competitive quality well just a few minutes left now for rexon to save themselves ball played forward towards Annie small small well she’s won the tackle she’s injured Fon price in the process this is Fuller Fuller’s mve into Midfield has certainly paid dividends But Here Come C City through MAA cook cook looking to release Eliza kie colie cutting down the angle for Dell Morgan but she’s found Cara Jones Jones needs support ball played forward cleverly towards Pritchard but Pritchard is tired now Rebecca Pritchard needs to get forward as much as she possibly can ball played around the corner towards Cara Jones final minute of a long and gruelling season for these women Cardiff City aiming for the treble having lifted The League Championship having won the adran trophy ball played forward cook is quicker than the two Defenders cook to seal it lifted over the goalkeeper and wide oh what an opportunity for Mika cook to seal the deal on the treble for Cardiff City she outpaced The Defenders but couldn’t finish yeah she’s lightning quick isn’t she she tries to get the ball down it’s difficult to do she just didn’t quite have the composure in the end to guide the ball towards goal another young player who had such a fantastic season oh great Touch by Rosie Hills into the path of Lightfoot light foot goes to ground Lisa Owen was it a push was it a foul no says Gerald Foster and the free kick goes in favor of Cardiff City the F by Rosie Hughes in frustration well we said she hasn’t G much wrong this evening there will be a minimum of five minutes at on time five minutes shoulder Tosh shoulder here there’s no contact there whatsoever from Lisa Owen she’s got it right again 5 minutes of added time have been added at the end of a pulsating boot energy Welsh cup women’s cup final only the one goal but Thrills and Spills throughout and pressure here and the ball is exactly where Cardiff City want it and L it decides to take the ball out of the hands of deith Morgan and there is a foul and it’s Karen Allen again with the foul edge of the box and Cardiff City will take their time and the free kick is awarded in a dangerous area again yeah it’s an opportunity here in avocado City to slow it down you can see her arm she’s got it wrapped around her head there it’s a silly foul to give away and time taks away against rexa still one down we played one of the five that have been added at the end of this Welsh women’s Cup Final and it’s sarin Watkins over the free kick m C Lisa Owen is up there but the central Defenders are way back no sign of Hanah power this time and it comes price is there cook is there it evades everybody and the ball is cleared by rexon but it’s straight to emo and she’s done it lifting the ball over D Morgan and the second goal seals the treble for Cardiff City Emma B on having moved controversially from swans City in the summer last year she CS a super season for the bluebirds 35 yd L over the top of deith Morgan and it’s rexam nil card City 2 well the goalkeeper she had absolutely no chance did she what a stunning strike from Bayan we talk about how important she was in defense and build in that play but she also got this in her locker that is Sensational well getting the ball up and over deith Morgan is one thing but right into the top Corner what a goal for a goal worthy of winning any Cup Final and Emma banon has been named as the player of the match as well by C Moran what do you think of that decision yeah I totally agree I think he was unlucky not to get in the previous Cup final but we’ve talked about her hav we she is such an important player for carder City how swansey City ever let her go I do not know the way she links her play her settle movements to get on the ball she dictates the tempo and to Capital Capal off with a standing strike thoroughly deserved and Holly Smith is on for card City wearing 17 and Emma Bayon is off and kry walut is on as well big smile on ker wet’s face been limited opportunities for Cardiff City since joining oh an opportunity again for the third El ISAC coli off after this one and it’s Emma Bon and fion price that have been substituted in order for Holly Smith and ker wer to come on well it’s been such a brave performance by rexon we mustn’t forget that they were under the cush from the first minute they conceded after 50 the individual Brilliance of ran Oakley putting cardi City ahead but they’ve had to absorb a torrent of opportunities really from the rexam attack but they’ve dealt with it well Hanah power mega boen and shobon Walsh without forgetting Karen Chamberlain in the goal it’s been a solid defensive display as well as taking their opportunities K yeah you have to give credit to the back three you know they’ve they’ve been under pressure but they have dealt with things but you know rexam dominated possession created lots of chances they should be very very proud of their performance and here comes Michaela cook looking for a third this will be heartbreaking for rexon oh and Collie hits the post well a Super Cross by cook and it’s Eliza coli who’s not going to get on the score sheet this afternoon the ball beat deith Morgan but it all cannoned off collie and cannoned off the post yeah it’s all cter city now isn’t it they’ve got the momentum from that goal Rex them are trying to pick themselves up it’s fantastic ball in isn’t it just the pace on the ball she just couldn’t direct it into the back of the net but Michaela cook she has been phenomenal again she has been excellent and so versatile as well can play left or right and has that quality cross in her locker as well and the pace she could have she could have had the second goal as well when she outpaced Ain lit and Karen Allen but couldn’t lift the ball over delis Morgan well we have played the 5 minutes allocated at the end of this game and it’s been a game worthy of a cup final and it looks as if Cardiff City are going to complete the treble and the treble for your sister Hannah power yeah on a personal note I’m absolutely delighted for Hannah I’ve seen the dedication that she’s put in this season like the whole team so for them to achieve something like treble you know it’s really impressive and it’s a moment that you know you’ll you’ll have forever absolutely they will go on to represent Wales at the Champions League in the summer here is sarin Watkins will be key in that run I’m sure and there’s a foul on sarin Watkins far side and that should be it in terms of the boot energy World Cup final you can see the scorers there together ran Ole and Emma Bay not and City keep possession and the throw is awarded as we play go into the 97th minute and there is the final whistle Cardiff City complete and notable outstanding Trel congratulations to Ian darbishire and his coaching staff and this squad of players they’ve lifted The League Championship they’ve won the adran trophy and now they’ve won the bo energy Welsh women’s Welsh Welsh women’s goals by Rian Oakley after a quarter of an hour and Emma Bayon a super strike from 35 yards over Del Morgan in added time sealed what is a deserved win against a Plucky rexam side who’ve done really really well but it’s it’s going to be a win and a treble for Cardiff City the final score here at Rodney parade it’s finished rexam nil treble winning Cardiff City two well Ian Welsh cup in the bag domestic Trel sealed how does that one feel um to bit surreal to be [Music] [Applause] honest that was nice that was nice Fe um it feels a bit wet now I’m not going to lie but listen we we set out to win everything this season and you know the girls they have to dig deep there re really good you know I got a lot of praise for rexim I thought they set up really well causes a lot of problems um especially in the second half but you know this all belongs to them this is for them this is their hard work through the season and the players can be so proud cuz I know we’re proud of them but like you said you had to work hard this afternoon you were made to work for it but in terms of a goal to seal a victory what about that one oh it’s about time I think you know she she does it all the time in training she’s come so close in so many matches and um you know she’s Emma is just unbelievable that’s why she got players play the season I think um you know she works her socks off every week and we’re just so grateful to have her do you think that her experience helped used to get over the line today 100% we have to dig deep like I said re them are really good um we may left a couple of chances out there in the first half but ultimately we had to dig deep we showed that we can play our football but also we can be Resolute you know we can be compact we can defend as well so you know to keep a clean sheet in a cut final is really important and obviously as the days go on now you know you’ll have a bit more time to take it in and to reflect but in this moment what about this achievement like I said it’s hard to play into words I think as a club this is our goal this is where we want to be and I think it doesn’t come without hard work and sacrifice and you know this season’s been a very long season we’ve learned as a group together and look where we are now you can’t play like that if you’re not together and I think this squad’s special and I think you know we can celebrate this we deserve it we’ve earned it and now like you said trouble winners what more can you do it’s been an absolute pleasure to watch you this afternoon please go and enjoy the celebration thank you thank you thank you yeah [Music] [Music] we when the [Music] [Applause] B e e e e e Emma [Applause] score Rex van [Music] fore for for actually well Roberts welcome back to red button commentary here at Rodney parade where we see the player of the match Emma Bayon with a stunning shot from 35 yards to win the cup for Cardiff City but a word also for the runners up being presented with with their medals by Welsh fa Representatives Lucy Gilt and anaise Lewis a word for exom ktie a brave performance by them today I think they can really leave today with a really sense of pride the fact that they got to this cup final and they really tested Cardiff and they pushed them all the way and it was wasn’t until that Sensational strike from banan that the game has really done I think they’ve come a long way this season and they are not that far away from competing against these top two teams in the league yeah what do you think they need to do to improve I think defensively they showed um a better side today I think in possession is something they need to improve but if they can sign one or two more players they’re going to be a they’re going to be competing next season but now as the winners take their medals receive their medals a word for the treble winning champions of the Janeiro adram premere winners of the adran trophy and today winners of the boot energy women’s Welsh cup 2023 24 it’s been a superb and outstanding season yeah I think they’ve been a different Beast this season and this is the club everyone is chasing now I think collectively they’ve had the best Squad and they’ve been able to really rotate their team and they’ve had a range of goal scorers and consistency has been their key and we see in picture Shor Walsh the captain receiving her medal and soon she will receive the bo energy women’s Welsh cup from national team manager Brian Wilkinson the TR is complete a Shor Walsh captain of cardish City women lifts the be energy women’s Welsh cup they are the winners of the 2023 24 competition and in so doing complete a unique and outstanding treble led by Ian darish [Music] [Music] [Music] then can Trel of course for fore for for [Music] [Applause] streng well girls what an afternoon and what an achievement you’ve had a moment to take it all in nowan you’ve been up you’ve had the trophy tell me what are the emotions you’re feeling at the moment uh honestly it feels amazing to win the last game of the season and for that to mean that we won the treble was just an amazing feeling and I think we should all be really proud of our as individuals as the players and as the club as a whole so yeah really good effort and just so amazing to Come Away with the last troph what about the game this afternoon because reom obviously you’ve come up against each other plenty of times this season and you’ve always you know made a game of it and made the wins look relatively easy but they pushed you all the way this afternoon yeah um yeah definitely obviously fair play to them they made it hard for us today um and you know one know halim is always not the best score you know one goal and they get back in it so we knew what we needed to do coming out second half and M came with the screamer so good J well I was coming to because obviously a second goal what a g what a goal to seal the victory with that was absolutely incredible what was going through your mind as you Struck it honestly I don’t know I haven’t ordinary this season so I thought why not try it now um I think I said for the game I was going to score but obviously I was joking actually score I just it’s amazing yeah today was a real time to score that one as well wasn’t it but I mean you know all jokes aside what an incredible season it’s been for you and as a team and what an achievement to seal the domestic treble it’s amazing yeah I agree uh I think all the girls have done amazing all year and to put in as much effort as we had for 11 months of the year and to come away with three trophies just it’s all we can ask andan just at the end there sort of manager pulling you all into a huddle and you know there was some there was some emotion in all your faces as well from Elation and disbelief as well having achieved so much thank you at this point because you can go back and enjoy the celebrations but it’s been such a pleasure to watch you this afternoon thank you thank you for [Laughter] justr for Cle she really this of course for person leue [Laughter] par for [Music] [Applause] yeah fore well Steve it wasn’t the afternoon you were hoping for in the end but you made Cardiff work so hard for it this afternoon and you must be so proud of your girls yeah no disgrace in our performance today I thought we were outstanding girls have been outstanding over the weekend you know everything that we’ve asked from them they’ve gone out and delivered today and you know I can’t be proud of of the whole group really for their efforts today obviously it’s still very raar at the moment isn’t it this defeat this afternoon but one have a moment to step back and take it in how will you reflect on this afternoon and actually on this season as a whole I think we’ve got to look back with uh it’s have been a great achievement everything that we’ve done this season we’ve got about ourselves with a purpose you know we’re a bit frustrated that we haven’t closed the Gap uh but that just shows how determined we are and how much expectation we have on ourselves here at the club but you know we we we pinch we’ pinch ourselves regularly to realize how far we’ve come I think we were you know we were lucky to get through that playoff final uh all those all that time ago but this season we’ve we’ve kicked on and you know we’ve proved quite a lot of people wrong and I’m really proud of the girls for their for their efforts all year it’s been a pleasure to watch you throughout Steve thank you for for [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] I

Great effort by wrexham but what a poor first goal to give away the defence on that left hand side went away on leave somewhere.
