1 STAGE TOUR OF HUNGARY 2024 LIVE 🔴 1 ETAPA TOUR DE HUNGRIA 2024 EN VIVO

re and yes but Phillips has already kind of shown that that you know sprinters can can do that but one V vanderin difficult but then again Kristoff is is one that one you can of class him as a bit of a sprinter as well um L edge of course and Lombard just a little bit too hly so for the sprinters to win monuments and things that it’s always kind of very difficult for them to be able to do that yeah that is an interesting one where that actually when you look at Peter San’s um career whether you necessarily that’s a fine piece of school-based can’t quite call it field art school art fantastic going with the absolutely classic bicycle shape as well it’s taken a bit of organizing I’m slightly uh sad for the the school children they’re not actually watching the race but this could have been pre-recorded it might well have happened beforeand there’s some hand clapping to keep them in time there as well Brian um yeah maybe maybe they were restricted in the the umbrella colors but I’d like to seen a little bit more color in that yeah yeah I agree actually maybe there’s something behind that that we’re not aware of I don’t know but they were all maybe that was the um maybe that was the cheapest set of umbrellas on tinter web to get ordered right Diego alisi has already been back today just before we came on air to have his saddle adjusted I was looking him thought he sadd always looks quite low anyway he’s got a very distinctive kind of low slung and long riding style anyway Diego El for U memorit we’re having a look here by the way at Emanuel Bookman the German national road race Champion they’ve got a strong team I mean they’ve got a strong all around team as well but they’ve got some real options for that that hilly stage up to ketu as well because they also have Ben zof um the German climber former mountain biker but they do also bring with them Sam wellsford and I think um possibly of all these sprinters Brian he might be the one who may be along with Dylan Gran but Gran has already won this year um San wellsford is the winningest Rider here this year but all three of those wins came at the tour down under back in January where everyone felt that he was going to set the whole season the light as someone to challenge the best sprinters in the world it’s not quite happened like that but this would be a good way of getting things back on track for wellsford let’s see though we have 58 km to see and we are just coming on to the finishing circuit now these four have survived with over 90 seconds of lead over the pelaton but it is a pelaton who seemed pretty certain that we are going to see a Sprint finish this is the entrance to the finishing circuit as I say 19k around anticlockwise they are now in the city of poor boso where our Finish Line is in fact we should be coming over the Finish Line amongst the barriers that’ll be the shot from the line itself and um we don’t have a Sprint this time so they’re not going to confuse themselves next time across the line after 119k lap there will be the next of our three the second of our three intermediate Sprint points every one of these stages has three intermediate Sprint points and they’re interesting in this race Brian aren’t they because in some of the other stages they’re not on the flat some of these intermediate strength points have actually been put on Hills as well so it could make that battle for the bonus seconds even more interesting it’s not just a sprinty competition that is it there’s three two and one bonus seconds available at each of these Sprint points yeah we see that in a lot of different races which I I quite like um you know having it kind of mixed it’s not all about you know the bonuses for the sprinters you know we we put it up in some uh some claims for the um you know the GC contenders because you know let’s be honest here I don’t think a sprinter is going to win this race you know he’s why you know offer the of 32 and one it’s you know it’s has happened through the history of our sport but you know the seconds are are are counting towards the the general classfication so the the the people that you know want these the most of the GC contenders so why why don’t we have okay it’s nice to maybe have a a separate Sprint competition um and really you know the the best Sprinter if you’re putting these bonus um seconds these Sprints out he’s not always the best Sprinter at wies uh in some races um you know the fastest guys they they guys that win the stages but you know we do have them in certain races I think we can talk even about the the tour of Britain that you know we’ve both worked on over many many years the rider that wins the um the Sprints competition isn’t as fastest Sprinter in the in the race um you know they and we know that sometimes the king of the mountains is not the the the best climber in the race um it’s just about getting yourself in that Breakaway and you know taking the points it’s another competition so I quite like the fact that they put bonus here the try France does that as well they give a little bit more I think it’s is it 86 and and four or something like that in in some of the the Sprints so I think in some races you know have them on you know little house and things like that throughout the stage especially key moments of the station knowing that the GC contenders might have a look at it especially in the last part of the the stages and maybe the first part of the stages as well before they kind of break away kind of sweeps up the the second Brian mentions those jerseys as he said the points Jersey thankfully in this race thankfully quite easy to remember jerseys in this race yellow for the general classification in the tour of Hungary green for the points classification which is spread between the intermediate Sprint points of course and the finishes where there’s 15 points for the winner down to one point for 10th place at the finishes then there’s the red mountains classification Jersey that was won by uh the Austrian Rider Sebastian shurger one of my favorite riders in the current pelaton as well when he was riding for human powered health shurger and then the white jersey is not the best Young Riders Jersey there isn’t the best Young Riders Jersey in this race it’s they Brian it’s the best Hungarian which I quite like actually something for the Hungarian riders in here to go for those Hungarian Riders of course being split between eonex Hungary cycling team the Hungarian national team and then a couple of others in our pro teams too we have should have said this at the beginning but to explain we have 20 teams in this race 119 Riders eight of them being of the highest order the world teams they are uat Emirates jco alula DSM feric bahin Victorious aana Kazakhstan borans grower little Tre and inos graders they’re the eight World teams and we have eight pro teams py Keta chudah Pro cycling Lotto Destiny q36.5 team Flanders balar yusel yusari who have a rider in the Breakaway the highest ranked the highest yeah ranked team to have a rider in the Breakaway yarel scardi and then corch Vin fantini and tdt unibet the new boys on the Block very much still the new boys on the Block having moved up from Continental status to pro team second division status this season uh they are the eight pro teams then we have those three continental teams the Hungarian team of epinex Hungary cycling team who have a rider in the Breakaway of course today uh then there is Pier bagette who also have a rider in the breakway today in Martin volter our virtual leader on the road right now and then the Hungarian national team one more team to list by the way the under 23 Italian team has been around for a long time kpac Balan who this year are known as team MBH Bank kpac Balan so we’re going back to the four riders in the Breakaway we keep focusing understandably on Victor futas of the Hungarian national team but as I say he is one of two hungarians in this breakway along with uh balash Rosa Rosa balash who was the 2014 Hungarian National Champion the 28y old so the must have won that quite young as well by the looks of it ring for eonex in what are going to be I think very easily recognizable jerseys that very bright yellow shoulders the team which is as I say the only Hungarian UCI Continental team for the men and therefore carries um if you like Countrywide sponsorship prex Hungary cycling team we’re in the green zone so an opportunity for Riders who need to and want to to drop the litter at the side to be picked up straight afterwards there’s W poles the tall slim figure of the Dutchman riding for the barini team barin Victorious having a little banter by the looks of it with case ball there two Dutchmen and there’s Mark Cavendish right in the middle M moru former Danish national champion up alongside him and as Brian Smith mentioned such a strong that is the Cavendish core team built around him this week really Mikel muku the Dame probably as the second to last Rider to Glide up the Cavendish train and get it into the right position case ball was always employed to be cavendish’s last man big powerful sprinter with arguably one of the most aerodynamic sprinters of all time Road sprinters of all time Mark cish tucked in behind him seemingly on paper the absolutely ideal scenario and when they’ve worked together it hasn’t always worked out that way but this is a machine that they are still continuing to hone in uh what I now call Project 35 the build up to Mark cavish trying to win that um third 35th to France stage to make him the outright leading Rider with the most toour of France Stags of all time he already holds that record of course with the great Eddie MKS but this project is about going one further Brian you know the whole Cavendish story extremely well from both uh sort of the outside looking on but also from the inside too don’t you and I mentioned earlier that we probably Ian I’m presuming we wouldn’t still be talking we wouldn’t still be commentating on Mark Cavendish had he not been second on that tour to France stage last year before he sadly crashed out but in fact had been first because that would have been we think it of course we never know what might tempt him to stay on for another year but that was the plan was it not I think it was yeah um but then again he just loves R riding his bike and racing his bike and you know every every done 35 last year would he have stopped maybe not if someone had come out and said look we we we go one more year um I don’t think he wanted to finish his career you know you won a stage of the jro um second close second had that mechanical you know crashing out I don’t think he would lik to kind of stopped his career kind of crashing out the the to France so even if he he won the stage and crashed out I think potentially um no one a little bit as I I do um er probably wanted maybe kind of one more SP song as where who would have taken him um and he’s got a nice home and you know from what I see he’s happy with the team um of course they’ve got their own troubles themselves with the UCI points um you know they have to kind of try and get as many as they can but I think it he he seems at home it’s some people might have thought maybe it’s not the team for him um but he seems happy with the the Raiders that he’s got the management and you know a happy Cal is um something to behold oh we are on the first of these three finishing laps um 19k Round We Brian Smith and I just been discussing I getting away the career of Mark Cavendish but also the the end game the final chapter in the career of Mark Cavendish I guess in a way the same could be said of pet Zan that it’s very clear that he’s at the end of his racing career he also in a way that’s the point Brian as well isn’t it Cav doesn’t need to go for this 35th stage win but it’s become a challenge which as you say he is obviously enjoying in amongst enjoying racing his bike um and and San likewise he doesn’t need to go to the Olympics in the mountain bik race in Paris and chances are on paper even if he does qualify effectively that is now the goal just to get there to Paris in a Slovakian skin suit and race in the cross country Mountain bik race there hasn’t been any talk from anyone I don’t think even from Sagan himself certainly that I’ve read or seen about targets for how he might do in that race it really has now become get to the race and for someone who’s won as much as he has it’s not something that’s necessarily going to add that much to his palarz but it’s a personal Challenge and uh and something that he is very much set on I’ll give it a plug again if you haven’t seen it or been watching it Folks at home it is well worth catching up with the Series Chasing glory on Discovery plus um peteran is one of a number of characters from different sports they are following in their buildup to the tour to the Tour of France sorry to the Paris Olympics this summer and uh it gives a fascinating insight into Peter Zan’s preparation that team he has built around him his support team as well and and also his kind of steadfast determination to achieve the goals he sets for himself Brian and we shouldn’t underestimate that considering you know what he’s achieved in his career three World Championships backto back in the road race 15 16 and 17 seven tour to France green jerseys 12 Tor of France stages um and all the rest and the classics of course Parry R and and Ronda van blander um I think by the looks of it when he sets himself a Target he normally expects his body to achieve it um but it hasn’t been that easy for him I think he talks quite openly in chasing Glory about still adjusting to the way that mountain biking has changed since he rode it right way back at the beginning of his career mountain bike cross country now and our coverage of it on um Discovery Sports and Discovery plus it is so extreme anyone who hasn’t watched any of the the World Cups from this year you should watch them back on Discovery plus because it is incredibly extreme and and he is a very good technical rider but there is such a vast difference isn’t there Brian in in what he’s doing here on his road bike and then what they’re doing on the Rock Gardens and uh twisty Mountain descents and ascents of uh of a cross country Mountain bik race at the highest level completely different yeah I saw a couple of Clips where I think in one clip he got it he got it wrong um but I think looking at the the kind a makeup of you know some of the top mountain bikers as you say in Scotland you know they’re built like a scal um you know very very slight and like you say mountain biking is getting you know kind of rather extreme and and as we all know that pet sanging G climbs he’s not a kind of gifted climber he’s really kind of stocky kind of bulky um powerful Rider so yeah the course would would kind of have to suit them as well but going back to goals so if you’ve been set goals by your team personal goals like this are something that’s are a little bit easier to to get your your your mind right and get yourself in that kind of groove of course talking to Mark being associated in the same way as Eddie Ms he would take that all day long but given that opportunity of just winning one more more stage whether it’s a 35th or not just winning one more stage it’s you know the biggest sporting event in the world you there’s so many riders that get totally motivated by the tour to France for some reason that is all they live for and that’s all Mark cish lives for there Dylan kovan a double stage winner here at the tour of hungry winning stages one and stages four in 2022 and 2023 so the last two editions he’s one two stages gr vegan and he has W this year already he will obviously be a big threat he’s currently sitting on on the bat wheel of Elma rinders there his team have been adding to the chasing they are adding to the chasing along with the light sort of sea blue of aana Kazakhstan yini git still on the front right now interestingly enough now we see the yellow helmets and the gray silvery gray jerseys of q36.5 moving up they have a good shout in Mato mosketti as well don’t they Brian there’s there’s not we we mustn’t keep talking about um Cav Sean in particular because there is a chance at the Finish we don’t even see Cav San at the Finish even after all this work of Asana it’s looking like they they’re obviously intent on that but then you bring in other players like there we go right on Q Elia viviani and others who will no doubt have a have an attempt at least some of these Sprints this week we all know that the the first stage of any stage race can be rather chaotic there’s no kind of hierarchy and and we all know that’s there’s a kind a lot of lack of respect in the pelet nobody gives an inch these days and you know everybody’s somewhat fresher I think adding to this that everybody knows that this is the the kind of nailed on Sprints you know that there could be Sprints in other stages but this is the kind of nailed on one this is the kind of flattest of the the routs that we’ve got over the over the 5 days for those that are watching um that right hand turned into the Finish is that was just coming on to the the finishing circuit for the last kind of just over 3K it’s pretty much like this straight but those are the ones that are slightly dangerous I know with the speed you can see that e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e that too in incredible fashion alongside U Luke pla who’ attacked from the Breakaway to get up to him I think this um sorry um J looking at glb sitaa um I think he still got a little bit to learn as we you see we a moped man back um for his his second uh Second Run uh sitting a bit closer on the wheel this time but yeah I think Gita is possibly the kind of key um of course he was he’d become a kind of Sprinter of his own right over the kind the last kind a couple of years um such a beast on a bike um we’re talking about Jonathan Milan um in the jro daala K Serita it’s maybe not as tall but he’s he’s such a strong strong Rider but there’s a certain um kind of etiquette when it microphones and everything here um when it comes to fading out I think what G from what I’ve seen he gets a little bit too carried away when you have to remain calm um and if they can get that right you know the thumbs up um for glb sitaa then that could be an awesome lead out though that they’ve got to be interesting to see what they take to the to France but I think what they’re trying to do is from the last kind of races that I’ve noticed is it’s kind of mold Gaber that into this kind of lead out train because although he’s a great strong and big bike rider he’s such a a man mass that you know he can he can punch a hole in the air and and the peleton itself and you know he’s so he’s so strong but he can be at that but there it’s a it’s a technique when you have to going to lead out if he’s a Raider if he’s in um the rid or two in front of Mark Cavendish then that’s a big responsibility we’re on the long straight that takes us back into the finish at huo bulo and that means we have second of our intermediate Sprint points for our Breakaway who are still away here they are there’s the sign for it as well yes that’s how it’s written if you’re just hearing me say itoro boso right our current leader is Martin vter of piette at the back here the tall rider in um the Czech rider in the red of Pier bagette red with the black shorts we’re coming in towards the Finish Line itself you can see it in actual fact he’s the virtual leader at the moment and I’m sure he’ll want to get another five points for that green jersey competition and then the three bonus seconds too number 184 and is back our virtual leader on the road he’s being followed by well it looks like this time maybe Mikel bisara also wants to have a go he missed out on points and seconds the yal yardi rider in the orange at the back there slightly nervous moments here I remind you there’s no mountains points on this first day so no mountains Jersey to go for it this is about getting into a jersey on that final Podium and it’s the Hungarian national team Victor futas who’s going for it first futas appears to have got the Gap as well by the looks of it can he hang on to it 200 me to go he’s gone from an awfully long way out um balas Ros is coming up on him too I think futas might just hang on to this yes he does Victor futas of the Hungarian national team gets Five Points and 3 seconds which means that in this Breakaway now he’s level with the guy who’s just overlapped and attacked him wonderful so he’s going to take back to 5 Seconds Brian straight away he 5 Seconds back points that’s just for the points that was a like as you said it in your commentary there he he went from 250 can a 300 M that was a long long St you wanted it I noted that um the rider here wter um he was sitting down the whole time he was you know powering away he didn’t have the acceleration but he was there possibly A Rush of Blood to the Head at the moment to to go because we still have um you know just under 38 km to go to to the finishing line so yeah I think the best chances is staying together but you know these races are such that everybody takes their opportunity and you never know what they’re thinking so a slight rush to the blush Blood to the Head there maybe never got the result he wanted and and has gone straight over the top interesting it will be very interesting to see how the presence of pet San lifts that Pierre baguette team this year um in this tour of Hungary in particular see how um kind of aggressively they take on the race it’s been interesting Brian to see them playing their part although they’re a little bit less evident at the front end now but they’ve been up alongside and just adding a rider in the line every now and again of those who are setting the pace at the front so they see themselves as a or appears that they see themselves as a key player in amongst all these other teams well if we read anything into the presence of pier bagette in the red at the front of the Pelon I’m not sure what we can read into the presence of team fanders balar who are almost on Mass at the back of the pelaton Brian thankfully nice L long wide roads for us to see all this as it happens yeah kind of surprised that them I have I don’t know I’ve not been kind of looking too much at the results they used to kind of pop up now and again um always a kind aggressive team and possibly a team that I thought is come here possibly try and getting the Breakaway even the first stage try and take a j cuz that’s what they’re all about it’s a development team second um second level in the ranks of of cycling and you know there’s no ambition toing to move up um so it was a a surprise to be that you know maybe they never put one right during the Breakaway that was a close one in the end looking down on it Victor futas of the Hungarian national team at the moment going to script having a national team Rider in their national tour the tour to Hungary and winning in front of the crowd as well which will be um very popular on the Finish Line there we have yet another Sprint next time through there’s a reasonable chance these four might survive for that as well but the fact that they’ve um been attacking each other is also interesting Martin Walter yes I do Wonder Brian I think I agree with you I just wonder where there may be a minute into that once he’d got away from the barriers and away from the crowd that he might have thought um or I would have thought oh what am I doing hang on why am I doing this again yeah he he’s done that I don’t think he’s been instructed but if you say that Yuri San is in the in the team car surely he’ll see this um if he’s got of course the um you know this the setup in the car not not all of these teams have especially you can a l divisions yeah I have to say I haven’t seen uran just yet he is one of one of their Sports directors on the official listings Yan valach who’s one of the Czech uh DS’s is listed as their DS but I know yoan is one of the three UCI registered uh sport directors within that team and that’s hence uh the link with Peter Zan obviously through his brother have G git back on the front again just pressing his knee down with his right hand as well as he pedals through everyone down tools at leadle no doubt come out to cheer on TBO nce as he goes past of course that Leal Trek team it is fascinating Brian how those colors of leele the uh the shop leadle obviously have sort of spread in popularity particularly through cycling circles the number of youngsters young cyclists I see wearing their Leal flip flops proudly and that’s what This respers ship’s all about isn’t it because I I think I’m seeing a lot of it in cycling circles you know I’ve had a pretty deep involvement these last few years with teenage racing cyclists here in in Great Britain and there’s a good number of them who wear their little sandals to training very proudly and can you imagine that a few years ago it’s just bizarre but now are they they’re not well some of them are very little in actual fact but but they’re pretty Gish size 39 or 38 yeah it could even be smaller no I like it’s it’s probably not the the colors that I would can of choose to buy but I like the Le track kit it does stand out and you know that’s what you want as a commentator a commentator and as a sponsor it you know I think it it looks quite cool to be honest with last year’s winner the Swiss national road race champion Mark Hershey like I have to say a lot of these riders in the pedon today chilling and chatting a little bit despite the moderate well above moderate Tempo and he’s Mark Hershey really since about this time last year seems to be quite close to that incredible explosive Mark Hershey at the very beginning of his cycling career Brian doesn’t he he’s he’s found himself a much happier place after a couple of years where it was a bit like what’s happened to Mark Hershey you know you could hear people saying it thinking it yeah I’ve been I’ve been told off to in the past that we should be pronouncing herei yeah you’re right Brian you are right it is herei sometimes very difficult um but here she um yeah definitely exploded big time you know when you you think of what he did in the in the Tour of France that year um incredible talent but he just hasn’t had those hates um such a quality bik Vader but just hasn’t had those hates and I hope he does absolutely absolutely um I think unfortunately when you come into your your first tour to France as he did and then won those two stages wasn’t it in that year I have to go back and look it up now but um an explosive start to his uh his career when he was riding for DSM or sunweb as it was then 2019 2020 I should [Music] say and it was one stage not two how have I managed to multiply it by two in my small brain Brian maybe it was that impressive I saw two wins in one he was incredible that year though wasn’t he particularly in that third week what do these three do now Brian I wonder tricky situation still scratching my head about why vter continues here um they’re committed to this probably could have done with um you know can another stronger Rider um he’s kind of dangling out and and possibly increasing his his Gap now and I think these these three Raiders look for La now to be caught um I think that’s why you know Martin wter of Pier bagette team is is just decided to D you know I’m on Mo and you know if that’s 12 7 he’s he’s a good 30 40 seconds in front of them which means that the three behind are well in sight of the pelum yeah and of course Martin wter is fully committed to this now tucking down getting Arrow making the most of this as best he can in very fast flat conditions this is the second lap of three of this finishing circuit and he’s heading towards um the bell and with that Bell he will also have the final Sprint Point 32 and one bonus seconds at the line don’t forget on the finish line for our winner there are 10 six and four bonus seconds there is a chance if he survived to the uh to the finish and finished in that leading group as well having one all three of our [Music] bonus actually I’m talking nonsense because Victor futas won them last time he only won one second at that last Sprint point before attacking even still he’d see himself sitting pretty high on GC but this is a big effort too and my suspicion is if he is caught this lot will be coming past him lightning quick too judging by how fairly moderately they’re taking it at the moment there’s still a fair bit of chat going on amongst the Riders too which indicates exactly [Music] that Brian um you mentioned earlier nael tusas on the era trainin he was one of those Riders who was down in that early crash and he’s got his elbow bandaged up too unfortunate on such a what looks like a fairly safe day too yeah but a safe days like this that you have to be attentive you know the the peleton roll outs you know most of these Riders are quite content and just like you just said a moment ago quite happy to shoot the breeze with their you know fellow professionals some of them you know possibly haven’t seen them for a few weeks and it’s when you get that kind of lack of concentration that you know accidents happen [Music] well our leader here Martin wter on the radio as well I suspect probably asking what the Gap is unless he’s looking for some kind of assistance down there and that is a now much more strung out peleton on what is basically now halfway through these finishing laps with 29k to go we’ve got 10K until we go past the line with the Bell sounding to this has definitely been upped a little bit not least considering if that’s accurate Brian 2 minutes and 20 as you say volter is obviously going well because he has extended his lead yeah they they were looking quite easy at the front weren’t they same Riders been riding for quite a long time and then all of a sudden that big acceleration um I still don’t know about this time Gap it seems to be kind of creeping up um you know second by second the whole time here but it would be surprised me if it is going to going to two and A2 minutes um they look okay at the front they’re in control um but I do believe that you know definitely Martin wter is is given this Phil beans um to try he’s totally committed himself and I don’t think there’s not a lot he can do I think initially wasn’t planned he just got maybe frustrated a little bit and Rush a blood to the head and decided to go over the top he opened up a gap they weren’t bringing him back so he’s he’s totally committed now so it’s it’s going to be a difficult one for him to stay away but when you’re in a race like this it’s always always nice to kind of be up there on your own and he’ll know that you know the cameras are there and and and he’s quite happy with um you know the situation and I think both jco Lula and aan are kind of happy just to control this one guess the fascinating debate is would he have attacked if he had won that last point it did look like kind of a reaction yeah I think you’re right I don’t think he would have those are the colors of unibet cycling team one of our six oh sorry eight pro teams in here um they’ve got a rider I’m looking forward to seeing this week Brian in Lander luks their Belgian Rider one of two Belgian riders in that Dutch team um Lander’s very well known as a uh a Belgian cycl cross star but I’ve never seen him well I haven’t yet commentated on him anyway uh road racing at this level and he’s a very good allrounder too we normally always can expect the cross Riders the good cross the really good cross Riders to have a fine Sprint as well but he has been road racing a bit with them already this season and showing himself to be um quite competent in the shorter stage races too not quite at this level actually but at the 0.1 level pretty consistent so I’m looking forward to watching him he he was riding toward turkey wasn’t he uh for tdt uni bet yeah he was as I say never cross a cross Rider um they don’t like it but uh yeah there’s you know we I covered with cowton at the weekend there um elf stead in Ronda in Belgium and there’s I think two or three of the cycle cross teams riding that um so they’ve had a bit of a rest now they’re you know they’re up in and riding some Road events as you know preparation continues for them trying to see what that machine is um that this team pierer are on I’m not entire I can’t actually read the logo on it Brian I did have a little click online I couldn’t see um well p is is is on the team so I would be surprised if it wasn’t specialized yeah it doesn’t look like a specialize to me though if um well if anyone wants to send us uh some exact and correct information i’ be interested to know it’s a very nice sort of dark cherry red that’s what I do know but that’s not giving too much Tech not too much depth of tech about it um you’re right though I guess it depends how deep Peter San’s involvement with the team goes Brian because he has doesn’t he that historical long running and still existent um partnership was specialized sponsorship partnership was specialized that extends into his uh his cross country Mountain bik racing right now I’m very much hoping this race might be featured in the next few episodes of chasing Glory as well in the buildup to those um Paris Olympics I know I keep banging on about that series on Discovery plus I’m not being asked to either I’m just saying it is excellent I’ve been watching it and it’s really good particularly if you like to kind of pick up sporting stories across different sports and some sports that you might not otherwise watch unless at Olympics ser in climbing track and field um uh beat boxing I’m using the wrong term there as well aren’t I oh gosh that’s so embarrassing um yes beat boxing I think it’s called Uh makes its debut at these Olympics of course follows uh men of vanor was one of the big big stars of that sport as he makes his attempt again just like Peters again to qualify even for those Paris Olympics 1 2 3 4 5 six q36.5 Riders all of them sitting in behind this combination of uh Kell O’Brien I’ve seen Rudy Porter as well the Australian rider for J calula front along with the aana Riders too of Guin git and um big glb sitaa also three or four back as well not quite as many signs of Mark Cavendish who in the slightly cross windy earlier riding was showing himself quite a lot at the front he’s now a little bit further back back there 6K to go for our solo Breakaway Rider before he gets the line because these three as you suspected Brian are going back in I’m I’m surprised at that I’m presuming Martin wter was the strongest in that Breakaway by quite some way because they haven’t even been able to combine to get back to him yeah they kind of looks as if the the stuffing has been knocked out of the M I was actually kind of looking at the pier bagette cycling team but um I think U Peter Cavendish just got our message in before they have three different big sponsors in there um oh and and actually her her son Finn is working with them um uh in Sagan so you know Well Done Finn Finn has been I thought he was doing a little bit with a St of some PR stuff um some communication so uh nice one Finn and thank you [Music] Peter so the check Rider one of four Czech Riders on that Slovakian Pierre baguette cycling team this week Martin volter continues he’ll get himself as Arrow as he possibly can he’s a tall guy to the 22-year-old and who would have seen this coming as well leading with a gap as big as it is 2 minutes and 15 seconds with 25k to go it’s a decent Gap Jaz but I think we all know that one Rider in front um do I think the peleton are too kind of worried about this if there was you know four five six Riders 24 km to go over 2 minutes there would be a little bit of concern but one Rider on his own okay no disrespect to Martin vter but if you look at his results um he’s not done a lot but there’s always a first um and this could be a you know a big result for him but when you’re in front on your own it’s always very difficult um and you leak a lot of time when the peleton start taking a really can of Chas it looking down here on lush green land as we look out across the Northern Great plane I’m reliably informed it’s a part of hungry which is can be quite heavily affected by drought in the summer and in the drier months of the year but this part of Europe just like uh where we are Brian you you mean to tell you this has had an awful lot of rain uh this this been the today it’s been 16° I think it was this is in in London area this has been the best day so far I’ve I’ve been trying to have strimmed the grass thinking about cutting the grass and um I’ve had to delay it so many times I’m getting so frustrated I feel like Martin Walter um but yeah it’s it’s one of these things you start something I want to finish it or started doing jet my the the front kind of patio and driveway and things like that and I was 4 5 hours at it in bank holiday Monday there and I did it in the rain I just got s for it I’m not waiting for a sunny day so I did it in the rain I know what you mean I’ve left my lawn similar conditions I look at it I know that if I start to run a mower over that it’ll just eat it up it’ll be more like plowing than mowing anyway they cross the railway line for the second time Martin wter as Brian Smith said is mowing his own grass out front and he’s still thought as as you say the timing is interesting CU he’s still sitting at 2113 so I’ve got a feeling I wouldn’t mind seeing a nice aerial shot looking at both of them he’s a nice long straight road so a good opportunity to see them both in there maybe [Music] um the young Australian Rudy Porter just sitting waiting to do his turn at the front as well um 23 years of age he’s the youngster in that jco Aluna team so forming his part in in Dylan Coran um trained today early pay setting I think I saw a little smile there from Martin wter as well looking across at some fans Brian he enjoy this yeah I think um it was either a staff member or something like that say the RO a nice [Music] smile he started his UCI Continental cycling career back in 2021 so presumably just postco lockdowns riding for the at Investments team which is still around now uh it is another of the Czech Continental teams the following year he went back to Elite level moving out of the UCI level Racing for TJ favorite Bruno which is a club team I think from the Czech Republic as well but then more before then moving on to the Slovakian team um piette where he finds himself now of course gy just having a little look around maybe to see where the are there’s the other three maybe they’re on their way up he looking to see where they are so he’s probably hearing something in his ear M muu there just in front of Mark Cavendish and they have um with them mikeli gazoli the Italian Rider well there’s more sorry Bri because they moved back a little bit from the front of the pelet when they start when you start riding a little bit harder um you know 45 to 50 km an hour you actually get a little bit more shelter and and the kind of Bubble at the the front of the Pelon ra rather than be in that kind of line the front um so a little bit easier just looking now coming through this feed I’ve got a clock on the lto destiny car hopefully I’ll see it in the the left hand side but so far yeah there it is in the left hand side so 2 minutes there we go pretty close then that’s it yeah that Gap is is coming down a little bit now but that Gap is true git here has done a lot of work for Asana Kazakhstan today in fact he’s done more work at the front from what we’ve seen anyway in the last two hours uh than anyone else multiple national champion of Kazakhstan also top performer in those Asian cycling championships has to be said championships between Nationals and Continentals which do bag quite good UCI points for these teams but he’s more than that because he’s a very good allrounder as well get itch there he is on the front you can just see JS that starting to Tumble a little bit more at the moment you know so there’s been an increase in the in the tempo at the front and that does mean that you know as a a single Rider who’s been out there for you know quite a few kilometers now it’s you know starting to Tire a little bit so an increase in in Tempo at the front of the peleton means that this Gap is coming down they also have a pretty decent Tailwind pushing them back in the the direction of Hors BOS with the Finish Line itself this is Rudy port the young Aussie on the front Jak alula and I think you can sense that wind pressing them this way it’s only about 18 km per hour but it’s just enough to bristle the trees as they have their backs to the wind and Martin wter in the kind of dark cloud and sunshine is grimacing a bit as he persists with this Breakaway that he made at the first of our Sprint points so he does get to the second Sprint point where he will pick up another three bonus second possibly that’s what he started sprinting for the last time over the Finishing Line it’s been a long um what 19.1 km Sprint yeah yes there was his Sprint I see what you mean Brian he launched his attack for that Sprint his opening burst back then I like it the DS in you Brian is has spotted a tactic which which you can write into the into the road book afterwards yeah oh hello hello this is very interesting interesting bonus seconds yeah going for those bonus seconds you’re right because there are two in one available so the GC battle and the battle for that competition right Al light now because they’re thinking about what might happen after the finish I think it looked like Elia viviani being led UPG be it’ll be Rodriguez that going to help out but I think he he went very very early there uh you know he’s he’s dropping into I think about fourth place now but this is out for Mark Hershey but um looks like Rodriguez has now popped into fourth place well Hershey we know has a good finishing Sprint in this as well uh there goes H Hershey he’s been deployed as well I think that might be Abram stalkram just behind him what has Rodriguez got left there’s only bonus seconds for the first two across the line this time they’re going to pop out from behind the Bell Hershey by the looks of it Brian well spotted yeah no no change really in in what we saw um kind of concentrating in this quite large Bell um been wrong but um yeah I don’t think um you know her leading out there taking a two seconds and it did look as if the unibet rider taking the third place there so Mark here she I’m I’m re-educating myself on that front having called him Hershey for years Brian so I’m I’m going down that route now follow that follow thatour all this week I’ll beating between the two we just looking thinking of the Hershey bars yeah yeah I do get hungry for some sweet chocolate during commentary um we were looking there at mat’s passions the Dutchman for lotto Destiny he was also down in that earlier crash today just languishing at the back of that peleton at the moment he will live to fight another day I’m excited this week Brian to see how young Yan Evander Park goes we talk about the the slightly bigger Sprint these big powerful guys Yan vandar we watched that Sprint again Mark Hershey the Swiss national road race champion sprinting very well at the front he’s quick isn’t he once he’s into his sprinting stride yeah just to get back to that O’Brien I am quite excited about watching Yan vapar uh this week not least because he’s had a great start to the season so far I mentioned his win in the grand PRI jimpy moner but he was also second as you I think mentioned earlier in the Ronda on Sunday he’s a big guy isn’t he and quick yeah it was got the uh the good name that Lander LS um but yeah getting back to Vander par he was beaten um by Alexander Kristoff and he looked good definitely um he’s not he’s one of not one of these kind of shy sprinters um he gets Phil filly stuck in you know kind of young upstart type Sprinter and and takes no prisoners um so expecting them to to do well um in this one especially after some good results at the weekend and he and he’s got gar the area um and a few other maybe one or two other Raiders to kind of help him but nothing compared to you know the team of aana here aana by far got the the strongest lead out and I think um Cav will get the the best lead out um um let’s hope he doesn’t make the mistake that he did in the in the tur turkey of stage and jump onto someone else’s going of lead out but he is up against some some good Riders here um you know we we are talking about quality Riders like Dylan gruner and wellsford for me being the you know the two other kind of main main sprinters in this race but when we’re talking about viviani um you know we’re talking about Marko um I’m putting to the side at the moment because over the last kind of couple of years he hasn’t been up there with the the kind of best of sprinters maybe kind of fifth or sixth but I think he’s he’s quite capable getting up there um but I think Vander power uh Vander par uh Marko uh these type of riders I think uh will definitely be here today and I think vanderpal would be I think one of the riders that um will um will challenge Cav grona and and wellsford the closest I think yeah this is a very clear statement of intent as well Mark Cavendish there sitting fifth wheel and then on his wheel Mel M so um I was trying to work out earlier Brian maybe what I think the order might be in a an Asana we both agree I think that this is his a team in terms of lead out train back in Cavs last iteration at um quickstep mial mku was his final man but do you think that’s changed I know you were watching them obviously at Turkey where you were commentating but has merc’s position within that train shifted now no I think if if merc’s on on form um remember Colombia at the start of the year the first stage that the garia won I think Marco wasn’t quite at his best there and they switched it around to to K ball being the uh the actual kind of lead out man the last man uh for for Mark cendes it’s you know looking at the team that they’ve got here I would think you know on paper um I would put um Sita um K ball morco and Cavendish um you need that trust and and Cavendish has got that trust in Marco although you know he had that kind of stage when with the help of case ball they’ve already kind of practiced this in January throughout kind of training camps and I’m pretty sure coming into this stage they they’ve recognized that this is the kind of nailed on Sprint final they they want to nail this one get C that stage get that we of confidence booster and and and also get that that gelled um Team happening because when you look at sitaa qub Mar kavenish that’s that’s four exceptionally good good strong riders that can uh deliver a stage [Music] today they are all fully invested in that project the lights of case ball in particular very fine Sprinter in his own right coming to that team as did MCO very deliberately as part of not what the team or Cavendish calls but what I call Project 35 you’ll know what I’m talking about fully invested in that of course um it’s not quite that easy not least in the uh in the current climate of world sprinting which is so strong 10 seconds let’s look for our Valiant leader Martin volter who regardless of whether that attack was or wasn’t the sensible thing to do I don’t really care because it was cracking they were by the looks of it going to be caught anyway judging by the fact that his three Breakaway companions seemed to be caught far more easily than we might have thought once he had attacked over there be spent by a lap by himself he’s hoovered up what six seven bonus seconds which means that as he’s caught here he is still the virtual leader on the road despite the fact that he’s been caught let’s see where he stands in the general classification once they’ve gone for the win we expect it to be a Sprint yes though there could be late attacks and all sorts of things but now let’s think very carefully about these final 12 km in this opening stage of the tour of Hungary Martin wter back in there he won’t be sitting up and drifting out the back I’m absolutely certain is it be thinking about um saving those bonus seconds his own team leader we suspect Peter San rolls up alongside him I don’t know whe they’ve had a word there Sagan is in a white helmet and the rest of his team I think are in Black helmets that’s quite a handy way of picking them out along with the world champion strikes on his sleeves which kind of helps well Martin vter he has to stay in the bunch uh he’s got those S seconds as you’ve already mentioned um which will pop them into uh second place in the general classification so so you know taking the Sprints um on those seconds will be valuable and I think for at the end of the day it’ be la for for [Music] Mar Al [Music] Al fa [Music] IND for k El [Music] [Music] Lucas ER Del GR k p for VI Al apprach pH [Music] El no [Music] Li El B for a El Al [Music] a for for [Music] [Music] Ben [Music] k for [Music] St [Music] [Music] [Music] Al for and an easy way of of doing it um but he was always going to be chaotic I thought aana did a very good job there I just think that um you know we could see that uh C opened up just a little bit too early there we have it Sam wellsford with his season right back on track and looking very good just ahead of young Sam kanta yakob Moresco my pick for the day in third and sprinting well ahead of Nicholas pedison Manuel penalva Mark cish in six ahead of John aburi here in Hors boso on the Northern Great Plain of Hungary this stage one [Music] we should be able to bring you an interview with Sam wellsford he’s usually pretty good post stag as well particularly when he’s one that’ll be an enjoyable one getting things back on track after winning the points classification at the Santos touran under back in January in those three stages in tanunda stage one and then Campbell town and Port Elliott seems like an awfully long time ago that I was up in the middle of the night talking through the tour down under and it was in a way lot happened since then but look at wellsford right in the middle despite the crash happening behind him sprinting well alongside Quant oh dear there almost L pins there we just see the shot there of Em’s Le pins just coming across Campbell Stewart as he touches the back wheel yakob Moresco avoided that one neatly bran didn’t he there the uh the corack Vinnie fantini Rider entire team even used the lead to isolate him and give them a better chance of beating him in the Sprint this afternoon but the the problem with the game like that against the group that contains the of Benjamin and the others is you may all come not even Sprint for the victory 800 me on the road still between the two teams and now we’ve got change that means feeling and happy with his team this is the resp line BL to the FR are they contributing the pulling the got a rid on the front right now they decided that is time to you push man up there it’s not surprising because that 50 seconds km to go you have to wasn’t about the up there because hold end up Notting Andie m is completely different I was going to say it was went straight to the front because the e e
