Picked this bike up for $100 🤷🏻‍♂️ assuming I paid too much but I liked it. It rode home perfect with 1,000 elevation and it tackled it great!

So far I’ve purchased these tires, Pasela Protite Urban/Touring Folding, changing the brake levers to Origin8 Brake Levers, ordered modern seat post, and new bar tape. Otherwise, I believe I’ll keep it original; until I turn into a single speed! Any thoughts? Suggestions appreciated…

I have always enjoyed that era of Fuji and $100 is fine if it fits! If it were me I’d switch to flat bars and keep the gears, single speed isn’t ideal IMHO if you only have one bike.

As is it’s great. If you wanna tinker…. 7 speed 11-28 freewheel and a silver narrow wide chainring 42t gets you the same gearing range without the 40% redundancy and eliminates fd. You’ll dial your chainline when you replace BB for a sealed unit. Will probably need a shorter spindle to use the outer ring position which looks better. Your right stemmie likely has enough pull and your RD will probably reach the extra cog, if not almost anything new will.

  3. I love it!! I have a ’78 S10-S with Panaracer Paselas and absolutely love it! Light enough, bombproof, comfortable, smooth, and easy to work on. This I think is a few steps up the ladder from the S10-S. Enjoy!

  4. I have a similar Fuji. A beautiful ride! My other bikes have been/are higher-end, but you know what? The Fuji is GREAT! I love it! A great feature of this Fuji is the crimped chainstays, allowing wider tires. This one likely has 27” wheels, limiting tire choices. Kenda sells a 36 or 37mm in 27. But Schwalbes are great tires. $100 is not too high for this bike. I say ride it for a year before making any changes. Best value changes:
    1. New saddle (do that sooner)
    2. If you like drop bars (I do), a more modern shape for better hand placement plus new Tektro brake levers with cable routing under the bar tape.
