I’m buying my first road bike, my budget is between $1,200 and $1,500 USD. I’m a casual rider, primarily a runner looking for some extra low impact cardio. Looking for no drop beer rides and weekend solo rides. I’ve been looking at Giant Contend, Specialized Allez, and Trek Domane AL. But I’ve also been watching some used carbon bikes on Fbook Marketplace.

I’ve been sized for a 58 but don’t know enough about the bikes to determine if a new aluminum is the way to go, or how to evaluate a used carbon in my price range.

    Listing info on bike pictured:

Trek 5500 road bike, 23” / 58 cm frame (fits rider 5’11” – 6’2”), handmade in the USA. OCLV carbon 120 frame; Shimano Dura Ace drivetrain, shifters, derailleurs and brakes; Bontrager race wheels (Aero in front, RaceXLite in back); low-resistance Continental Gran Prix 4 Season 23 mm tires, made in Germany; Specialized Toupe gel seat; two water bottle holders; Giant seat bag with spare tire. No pedals. Very light weight, only 17.6 pounds.
