This poor Fly Proton mongrel needs some love (yeah no it is a Fly Proton, I just didn't like the decal set, so I made my own decal from stickyback plastic and some round ended safety scissors).

I've been smashing this thing across London and back 6 days a week and it's properly shagged now.

Freecoaster hub internals catch and clunk when free rolling.

I didn't have the correct width bb spacer when I threw this together last year, so I used a length of metal tube that I cut from a mop handle 😁 I think that's now been destroyed by side load and the thing creaks like a sealion in pain when I pedal.

It only has to survive until Saturday, and then I can take it home where my tools are, and strip it down. But based on today's ride I'm not sure it'll make it to Thursday.

Rear hub may already be too damaged to service back into good use now, so may need a new hub, or a whole new wheel because I'm too lazy to relace a hub.

But for a thrown-together build, it has held up well to two months of inner city cross town banging, six days a week in all weather.

It needs a rest now though. Time to get my Cult into action for a while.

  1. That’s classically bmx being ridden for mileage! They’re tough for tricks, but not so great for distance. Fc’s being a friction based drive always suffer from this as well
