I normally find myself looking at most of the “are my tyres” toast pictures and wondering why people ever have to ask, but I’m a bit unsure as these are brand new.
I got a pair of Hutchinson Sector 32 tyres just before Christmas, and set them up tubeless on some new Raleigh wheels to go on my Boardman gravel bike for dry road rides.
I just got a first chance to ride them today, and after 20km they look like this – what looks like a small gash and some small cracks in the front, and some larger cracks in the rear where the central tread meets the sidewall (the Reddit pictures make it look a bit like it’s extra bits of rubber flashing sticking out, but they’re all cracks going in)
They’re at 70PSI based on the Silca pressure calculator vs a max of 80.
Is this normal, or am I right to assume that they need to go straight back to the shop?

not normal. take them back
The gash could just be bad luck, but splits along the seam is most certainly a defect. The shop should warranty these in a heartbeat and if they don’t you should look for a different shop.
Definitely defective
The fourth picture it kind of looks like there is a small strip/flap of rubber attached tot he tire, the extra bit left over from manufacturing that wears off in a week or so…I can’t tell because of the lighting/shadows but is that what we are seeing in pics 2-3?
