I recently bought a gravel bike from them. Got the xs small cuz I’m on the cusp 5’4/5’5. Had to send the shit back it was sooo small , I got the regular small instead. I will say they have great customer service and you can easily exchange.

good rule of thumb is that if you’re between sizes and you’re gonna ride on the street, size down. You can always get a longer stem or raise your seatpost, but you can’t shrink your frame

I only have one of their bikes and it ran a bit smaller so I’ll suggest the Small since you’re on the cusp.

Knowing the model would help. For example, the 4130 model has the same exact stack between both sizes and only 2mm of difference in reach, which is nothing. So you’re basically going to get a bike that fits almost exactly the same but will look different as the top tube on the xs will have more slope to account for the lower seat tube length. So it comes down to if you want a more sloped top tube and more seat post exposed or a more horizontal top tube with less seatpost exposed. Again, this is all assuming you’re looking at the 4130.

Extra small. You can always pur a longer stem or some spacers, seatpost with bigger offset, … Riding a (too) big frame is just not that nice in terms of handling and power transfer.

State offers free exchanges, I’m not sure if that means they offer free return shipping if you order the wrong size though.
Also check out the geometry charts and compare your bikes you’ve ridden in the past. The site geometrygeeks.com can be a great resource.
When you’re on the cusp like that it can be very difficult to determine the better size, especially without riding the bike first.

I’d almost be willing to bet that somewhere on the interwebz there are actual geo charts with things like toptube & seattube lengths, etc available for State bikes that would be much more helpful to choosing your size than that thing you’ve posted. Good luck.
