[Music] what you making I’m making uh black pudding bacon post eggs and sour no toast proper coronation breakfast yes [Music] [Music] for [Music] if you’ve watched any of our latest episodes you’ll see that we’ve been traveling with Paul and Anthony from YouTube channel now about life unlocked we’re on a 160 m Journey with 107 locks down to the quick boat show at the end of May this episode we’ll be cruising through Leicester on the Grand Union Canal we’ll be starting at burel to the north of the city through Leicester city center and out to the south at Kilby Bridge as have become the norm on this journey Pete did all the planning and the rest of us just nodded our approval we’re in book three of the Nicholson’s guides they’re the mapbooks we use to navigate while we’re cruising and this section is Page 105 back to 101 our plans changed a little as our son Alex came to visit us on the boat he got to meet Paul and Anthony in real life after seeing them on FaceTime so many times and while Pete and Paul and Anthony Cruis from Barrow down to burstall Alex and I went shopping to Kit him out for his upcoming Cruise contract he’s an Entertainer on the spirit of adventure with Saga cruises and his boat’s just a little bit bigger than ours and this floating theater was his new home winds in the East [Music] coming begin I took Alex to see crit Warf Marina that was going to be our new home for a few weeks and then I headed back up to Leicester we had a beautiful moing right next to waterme Country Park just to the north of Leicester city center and it was really easy to get the bus into the city we’d found this moring spot by accident really the last time that we came through Leicester there hadd been no spaces left at what we’d been told were the safe moins in the city so we’d had to carry on out of the city’s Center good morning com in theat [Music] the going too fast mate [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] it’s the first of our locks today just come into B grave lock got 14 locks to do heading from bur through Leicester all the way down to kby [Music] bridge that’s a national Space Center over there [Music] [Music] [Music] it’s a mandarin duck there in the middle don’t see very many of those around so we’re starting to see graffiti on the lock Gates there’s a lot of rubbish around around here and in the water and um we know from when we crued through the city last year that that’s just how it is in Leicester and a lot of other sties really a lot of graffiti and rubbish [Music] [Music] hello [Music] everybody Something In The Water there oh it’s a bin it’s a wheelie bin in the water it’s a wheelie bin [Music] look at that some really really lovely street art mixed in with the uh graffiti this is actually part of a initiative by the Leicester City Center Council to it’s called bring the art and they invite Street artists to come and decorate um Le decorate walls in the city [Music] [Music] [Music] to get [Music] [Music] G [Music] so these people just leaving they’re on a higher boat they’ve been trying to get through this lot for the last 2 and a half hours there’s a huge leak that has uh stopped the lock from uh fill in and empty and properly so we finally got it open with some Brute Force four of us pushing on the lock gate you can see the big leak at the end of sir get stop around are we going to get cake don’t but we need cake but there was a sign for cake here somewhere oh there it is bit’s bake shop and Cafe at the [Music] middle I am now seeing this cake a they um work with the canal and River trust they do like painting along the waterways they work with Council City so work work all over the do like commissions with like FY and places like that in London yeah and there me what a fabulous place you got coffee and cake and art supplies coffee and cake art supplies exhibition space to do like film nights uh street food things upstairs again we’ve got like a printing that do like cups stickers and everything then on the fourth floor is my Bak cre right the way at the top fantastic so this is the paint space graffiti [Music] Calles and things [Music] [Music] some of these have been painted over since we came past last year yeah remember that was a huge chameleon or something chameleons on this wall here yeah oh yeah oh it’s a frog I think it’s a tree frog is it it’s a shame people graffi over the really nice stuff though yeah so from that lovely cake shop we got this m bar huge thing and a bwell blondie I think it’s called a bwell blondie and a CH latte and an Americano pit I’ve just cut them into more manageable bite size pieces cuz they were huge this is Fri M morens um when we came past last year there weren’t any spaces and now there’s quite a few spaces there Fri Mill moins are pontoon moins owned by the canal and River trust that you access with a CRT key so they’re somewhat secure these were the moin that were full the last time we passed through Leicester which ended up with us finding the beautiful moin at waterme Country [Music] Park how is it very good I think she said it was a layer of cookies brownies Rice Crispy cake marsbar melted all into it that’s our [Music] lunch that artwork it’s amazing isn’t it [Music] [Music] you can see Castle Gardens visitor morens on the right here there’re the other City Center morons that you need a canal and River trust key to access there had been one Spot Free here before when we passed through Leicester but we’d heard really mixed views about their safety which is why we carried on to fr’s meal but when we’ got there there were no spaces it’s a little more stressful when you’re cruising through cities that you don’t know and you don’t know the safe areas [Music] there’s Leicester city football concus there we just coming up to Freeman’s Meadow lock and look like Gate’s already open it’s going to come straight in [Music] it’s rather a big lock isn’t it [Music] get one there old lily pads out here [Music] [Music] I’ll get out in the bridge [Music] it’s a boat M on the lock Landing just a bit of a pain [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] Happ [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Paul and I just been trying to open this lock this paddle but it’s got an anti band thing on it that we haven’t noticed see that latch just there course going to get the key to put it in there to hopefully loosen it needing your key to operate the anti bandle mechanism oh look there it popped out that’s Magic [Music] [Music] yeah we’ve just been in and ordered some sausage BS from this Kings lck t- rooms for lunch and we’re just hanging out in the lock ladies are just going to come and Shout us when they’re ready we can pick going in and pick them up look they want sausages when you stop for sausage down and the brown sauce it’s just 10 times nicer than when you make it yourself always you shouldn’t have brown sauce it’s all wrong is it yeah what do you have just sausage no brown sauce own no brown sauce and you have butter on your sausage yeah butter on the bread in but on this oh I might need some sauce look at puppy and Hy I think they like ice cream what have you got there Anthony sausage sausage sco Peach for us oh is that for your throat yeah Different Finger for you you’re spoiled us that was definitely worth a stop wasn’t it yes very much so yes how many more hours cruising now eight locks I know that just counted be there soon that’s a pop of bubble bath there [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] the water’s so low here and we’re not sure why CU we’ve had a lot of heavy rain whether somebody’s left some paddles open on some locks at some point um just going to see how it is when we get there that boat just come out of the lock so hopefully the block be enough over the water level’s really low and uh he’s trying to get back out into the middle letting me off [Music] there’s this lovely Garden at wetstone Lane lock little kids bike isn’t it there’s so much more rubbish in the canals going through the cities and the danger is it gets around your propeller [Music] a boat comeing towards us so we left the lock gegs open for them to go straight in [Music] bye there all right [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you take care [Music] that was lucky there as a boat coming out of the lck we just leave it open [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] a little canalside Pub set up there oh it’s called the canal side in look s [Music] [Music] that was fun wasn’t it yes totally what we you trying to do just get around the corner just trying to get around the corner Against the Wind and uh shallow water with like a sandbank t tipping the boat over yeah [Music] and finally this is the last lock of the day kby lock and just after this we’ll be stopping for the night it’s been cold and tired last luck of the day done and we’re just going around the bend and hopefully there’ll be a spot for us two spots two [Music] [Music] spots yeah just on the right here St [Music] thank you so much to everybody that supports our Channel Through buy your coffee and YouTube super thanks we really appreciate you and hit Some day the wife and I would like to go on a boat trip with someone.
You must be so proud of your son Seems he's very talented and doing well. Best of luck to him. (or break a leg Alex)
Thank you for the video. Always nice to see the cities and the countryside. Hope the friends / puppies and the both of you are doing well. Bit cool here – 47F today and windy. Take care Spinner
Another nice trip on the canal. The town of Leicester was strange with all the graffiti, but the artwork was nice. Enjoyed seeing Anthony back with Paul making it easier to get through the locks.
Lovely vlog! Those cakes looked scrummy! 😋 Lots of graffiti, but some of it was really smart 👍 Paul’s braver than me, walking over the roofs of both boats, I’ve never had the courage to try lol. Hmm, sausage sandwich … how do you eat yours …. with or without! 😜😂 See you soon! xx
Just like a proper road trip. Caroline asked "how long now" and Pete said "soon"! 🤣😂🤣 Still 8 locks to go so not that soon.
Helloooooooooo, I loved your dog Hamish in his new bag so dam cute.
Great video
Wow to the cakes they looked scrummy as I was eating my 🥗🥗🥗 salad.
Take care X X X
WOW! I love seeing all the murals! Even many of the graffiti style ones are cool. The mural on the roll-up door at 11:47 is amazing! Also "…but we need cake." 😂 Don't we all! Great episode guys! 😎👍
Just watching your latest vlog, that kids bike – I fished it out at the lock a few days before you so somebody must have thrown it back in🙄🤣
Enjoyed this video, so interesting to see the Cities from the canal. Loved the artwork and the cake shop 👍👍
Our very first ever trip was from Market Harborough to Leicester and back after going up and down Foxton. The locks between Foxton and Leicester were exhausting, but worth the adventure. We spent the night about halfway and there was a huge all night party with loud music at a farm not far away. It ended about 2 in the morning. What a night. We also fouoed our prop in the city b efore we turned around. It was my first trip down a weed hatch.
Sigh, I'm a diabetic so cake slices are rare and tiny. Spring has come to the far North. Went from 0C to now 29C in a Week. Still gets close to 0C at night. No green leaves yet ,,,,,soon though. Thanks for taking us along. PS Rivers are still covered with ice.
I'm curious. …and please feel free to say it's intrusive and ignore me.
How do you see your future on a narrowboat? Your videos are surely a love song to them but is this something you contemplate doing forever? If not, how would you transition back into a shore side home? I'm 77 myself and it's hard for me to imagine dealing with locks and bridges as I lose strength and agility but it's equally hard to imagine coming up with funds for a house and furniture again in my later years.
Meanwhile, be happy and mobile as long as you wish to be!
Am just going out to buy some cake…….great vlog!
Such a shame that a small group of people feel the need to wreck their beautiful surroundings. The street art was amazing though. So nice to see Alex doing so well, what a talented young man you have there. As always, beautifully shot and produced Caroline 🥰
Sausages and brown sauce yum yum
Red sauce for bacon brown sauce for sausages thought that was the law.
I was watching your video and the Mrs exclaimed passionately "that's not a mandarin duck. That's a red-crested pochard!".
great video, those cakes looked very nice
Hi. Don't know if you've been asked before, but why are your vlogs so far behind timewise please
Hi and thank you for your videos. It's amazing you mentioning your son Alex was an entertainer on the Spirit Of Adventure. We set sail on that ship on 19th March 2024 going to Norway. It seemed a happy ship to work on and I wish him all the best in his career.
Hi just came across you video loved it what a nice trip you took on your narrowboat, and what a life this would be to live on and be able to tour around to see all the sights . I am in Ontario Canada . I am looking for a Tiny home on wheels hopefully to be able to travel about . Those goodies looked supherb . Most of the graffiti was gorgeous, But so sad some areas were damaged by the not so nice what a shame . Amazing tour thanks for bringing us with you all. Your dogs are so adorable . I have subscribed .
Wow, the city canals are filthy.
And all that graffiti is awful. Too bad the city doesn't clean it up.
