A lot of bikes contributed to this build, a long with some off the shelf parts.
From a 1985 Fuji Del Rey:
* Frame and fork
* Brake levers
* BB, cranks and pedals
* Seatpost
* Front Derailleur, Suntour LePree
* Friction shifters
* Cable housings (although not sure if original)ousings (although not sure if original)
From a 1980 Schwinn Traveler:
* Center-pull brakes + cable stop hardware
From a 198X Kabuki Submariner:
* 5-speed Shimano Freewheel with 34t max cog and skip-tooth design. It shifts like a dream. Definitely not original to the submariner, but that’s where I found it…
* Suntour V-GT Luxe Rear Derailleur
Used and new parts:
* Zac 19 700c wheels
* Bontrager 622×35 tires
* Nitto Technomics quill stem
* Parts bin drop bar with slight rise and flare
* SRAM Cork tape. Red was on sale but it looks radical!
* Some random Cannondale saddle from the thrift store that I really like
I definitely made the bike heavier than it was originally, but it still clocks in at 27lbs without the bags. Rides like a dream. Very impressed with the Fuji VaLite, didn’t think I would be.
Planning to kit this thing out for touring. Probably gonna have to get a rack, but then I might just pack it with military surplus bags! Coyote brown or woodland camo? That’s the question of the day.
