I’m zero for two on these. Same thing happened on my bike and now I’m doing it for friends bike and the XD driver separates and half of it comes out connected to the cassette. What am I doing wrong?

It looks like a DT Swiss Hub, this is normal. Makes it easier to service them.
you’re doing nothing wrong, thats how they are designed
Bolting the hub into the frame is what holds the hub together.
