Am going bikepacking soon and this is the road that I’ll be soending a couple of days in.

Currently, I have 700x28mm tyres on, the feel fast and comfortable when riding in the city. I tried to put my 32mm gravel tyres on and what can I say, they feel very different, slower somehow. They’re also brand new so they didn’t brake in yet..

I know that wider tyres can potentially go faster given the right air pressure and they’re probably safer for this trip, it l’s just they feel very “weird”.

Will I be making a mistake reverting back to my 28mm tyres?

  1. Something that feels slower doesn’t have to be slower.
I would decide this not only based on how wide the tyres are l, but also on the profile.
Are the gravel tyres slicks or semi slicks, than I would use them.
    Just for comfort.

  2. 28 km of cobbles seems like it would be enough to warrant 32mm. That seems like a lot to me.

  3. It’s probably the casing and the tread rather than the width that is giving you that feeling. You’ll be fine on either.
