I bought this vintage bike used and I’m guessing there is no way to upgrade the firmware on this power tap.
I haven’t been able to connect this thing to any device. I can’t even remember which way these new batteries slide in. Thanks for your help.

no experience with powertap hubs, but considering how the contacts are placed the batteries are inserted correctly in the second picture.
