Omloop Het Nieuwsblad kicks off what is known as Opening Weekend – the first races in northern Europe of the classics season. The 207.3km route from Ghent to Ninove tackles 13 hellingen – the bone-rattling cobbled climbs of Flanders – as well as seven more flat cobblestone sectors. The final 20km traces the old run-in of the Tour of Flanders, featuring the mythical duo of the Muur van Geeraardsbergen and the Bosberg.

Yes! Yes! Fuck, yes! The cobbled classic season begins. My absolute favorite part of the road season. This race was my introduction into the cobbled races when I read about Eddy Planckaert winning it back in the 80's (no YouTube back then). Go, van Baarle! I can't wait until Paris-Roubaix and Tour of Flanders.

I don't think a team blocking the road to give their rider a major time gap and advantage can be accredited as a superior ride. To be fair, he should have been challenged and win based on a better performance. All these riders complaining that Ineos is old school etc. but they have one of the best development programmes and these riders just going to other teams after their development. Jumbo Visma is a good team, but cheeky tactics in my book makes you lose points.

Good race but unfortunate that the GCN+ stream switched away from the podium to the women’s race. Two streams were showing the women’s race! Would have liked to have seen the men’s podium celebration.
