Hey guys I got my hand on this beauty last December and am looking to fix her up and cycle the great western way (200 miles)for my birthday next week.
She’s a bit of a fixer upper and being a uni student my budget is a bit tight what’re the main upgrades I should do to allow me to undertake this adventure. Any advice is appreciated.

Replace the chain
Replace the cables (brake & gear); replace the housing (brake & gear).
Take the brake calipers off, disassemble them, clean & lube, reassemble & reinstall. Put on new brake pads.
If you’re feeling adventurous, take off the brake levers, & take off the suicide extensions.
Take the wheels off, clean & repack the bearings.
