I had a day training with one of my channel members in Worcester and these were all the incidents I captured in the one day.

  1. I agree Ash. Even before in my 15 minute drive through rush hour, the amount of people on their phones as soon as the traffic stops or just driving without seemingly any clue on lanes or how to use indicators infuriates me

  2. went on the motoway for the first time during the weekend (got the car 2 weeks ago, passed 2 momths ago)
not as scary as my parents made it out to be. Just the getting on at slip roads is the real pain.
Got on, got of at the services, Got back on, Spun around on at the next junction and did the same thing at the services southbound.

Brought my cousin with me so he could guide me. For the entirety of it I suck in the left lane 4 sec gap from the guy infront (dry conditions)

  3. how did you catch all those light related sins, but not anyone driving about with main beams on, thinking its dipped beam.

  4. 8:05 and that's how it's done. It doesn't matter if you're a well trained driver, with a hands free kit…….no phone call is the safest option when conditions get dangerous. 👍

  5. With the headlights I say the same thing for indicators. "They're not on because the driver can already see where they're going" (or already know that they're turning)
My point of course is that their mindset most likely isn't that of thinking of other road users, "can they see me", "am I helping them figure out where I'm going" – rather, it's entirely themselves in their own little world.

Not a fan of the auto mode on headlights and wipers. I use the modes as they're there as I'm capable of thought, but I'd do without them if it meant others actualy had to think about whether they should be on or off and not have the car do all the thinking for them. Automatic high beam should just be banned, I hate driving around a well lit built up area and someone blinds me for 1-2 seconds until their sensor reacts.

  6. Had I known you were coming to Worcester, I would have recommended you checkout a terrible junction in the city centre (near the Worcestershire Sauce factory). Despite improvements and moving a line to remove all ambiguity it confuses people everyday!

  7. With the lights issue, it could be that they are left on auto but it's not dark enough for the sensor to activate the lights.
My Renault van does exactly the same in those conditions when set to auto, I have to switch them to manual most of the time in those conditions.
What you find these days is a lot of people don't drive to suit the conditions and when something happens usually it results in an accident.

  8. I remember a Swedish report from the 80s that found that vehicles having their lights on 24/7 prevented more accidents than enforcing speed restrictions. For that reason since about 2006 when I bought my first vehicle that automatically turned the lights of when the ignition went off, I have always left my lights on. Because daylight running lamps don't engage the rear lights I do not rely just these and auto turns the lights on too late, especially when it is foggy.

  9. A lot more people are driving high powered cars as well as EVs which have no torque = more able to carry out aggressive and passive aggressive manoeuvres like closing space. Roads are worse now 💯

  10. Not so much auto headlights it's the back lit dash. Onceover as dusk/night time came you couldn't see the dash as you needed the lights on to light the dash. Surely that's the way forward again.

  11. The uk is the fourth safest place to drive in the EU, so 2 people out of 150 don't have lights on, thats barely the majority. The only thing most people do is the "middle lane hogging" and speeding. The thing with britain is most people are defensive drivers while there's a few that take advantage of that. In other european countries most people drive terribly but anticipate that others do so. What I like about your channel is the teaching to ignore the idiots and not berate them but just anticipate them.

  12. Another great video with many lessons.

You have a good wife there Ashley: she recognised the challenges facing you and removed the conversation distraction. She is without doubt one of the most sensible drivers featured in your video and she didn't actually drive in it!

Yes, silver (or dark grey) cars driving with no lights in rain are a particular bugbear of mine. I nearly came to grief due to a Silver VW Polo doing that on a rainy day, but thankfully I saw it just in time and aborted my manoeuvre!

That was a Iong trip surrounding an intensive day. I noticed you yawning. Were there techniques you used to stay awake and alert? Perhaps a topic for another video?

  13. I've seen a number of cars, relatively new that have no lights on but when you go to past they seem to have dipped headlights on and not DRLs. Flash them a few times, some react and put them on but some do not. And this has been level of light that you would surely know if you had no lights on. Lights not only help you see where you are going but also allows other people to see you which sometimes is jus as important if not more so, some people forget that especially those on 2 wheels it seems to me.

  14. i live in gloucestershire and driving dark cars in the rain or on gloomy weather days with no lights on is getting worse. They have a mind set of they can see the road and other cars so what's the issue… same with black wearing cyclists riding black bikes on black nights with no lights. They lack the intelligience to understand that we cannot see them though.
