Looking for some opinions.
I am in the market for a enduro/freeride bike for use at New England bike parks (Thunder, Killington, Highland). Occasional enduro riding/pedaling. I have a trail bike too.
Local shop has a 2022 Rocky Mountain Slayer C70 build for sale @ $3500. Its brand new. Shop owner says this is basically a leftover from the scramble to get bikes coming off of covid and the bike never moved and that he’s selling it at a loss (no idea what mtb margins are, but they most be slim). Retail on this is $\~7000 — the original MSRP tag was on it but am forgetting the exact retail price. This seems like a screaming deal. I’ve mostly been looking at similar priced YTs, Commencals. The spec on the YTs comes close to the Slayer, I think. But Slayer still wins.
I test rode the Slayer on some dirt roads near the shop and it felt good but…those are dirt roads. I’m a little bit hesitant as its older.

Any thoughts? I have never ridden a Rocky Mountain.

I think you should, it seems like a great bike for what you want. They came out with a new model that has minor tweaks to geo and kinematics but nothing major. I have a 2022 Rocky Instinct (C70) that I’m a huge fan of. I will say that the MSRP is super inflated… The 2024 C70 is $7800 MSRP but currently selling for $6200, so that’s a more realistic number to compare to imo.
I think that bike would be perfect for what you plan to do with it, and the specs are killer on it. Seems like a great deal to me.
YES
If you dont, Im grabbing my passport and driving down to grab that. Screamer deal. Shit yea.
I like bikes. I see a bike for a great deal. I tell people to buy it.
