The wife and I retired beginning of March , as part of our celebration road trip we rode the Katy trail. ~270miles including side trips. We rode Kona Rove LTDs, we stayed in hotels, cooked lunch on the trail and ate at restaurants for dinner.

It was our first long distance ride, both fun and educational.

#1 Trail head toilets/water do not turn on until Apr 1. We each carried 2.5 liters of water but ran out twice. We wound up knocking on doors to fill up from hose bibs.

#2 A lot of restraunts close very early, 5 or 6.
In Rocheport there was only one restaurant open when we arrived, a mile and a half hike away.

3# We rode Clinton to Machen, Machens was very anti climatic, it was in the middle of nowhere.

4# Weather in the Midwest is very hard to predict, our first day started at 25 degrees, the next day it was 85, we had to hole up on our last day and a half because extreme storms/tornado warnings/large hail. Then our lat day the temp plummeted instead of going up as forecast with 40 mph headwinds. OMG it sucked.

We had a great time and will be riding the Mickelson in South Dakota in May.
