I think a lowrider front rack (Tubus Tara or Duo) would be more efficient assuming you don’t use the flattop.
Otherwise, yes. This is the way.

Sold a similar bike a couple weeks ago (Specialized AWOL) didn’t fit. Planning on using a Cannondale 29er. Really like your bike’s style for touring but the one I had didn’t fit. If the bike fits your halfway there.

Rather than the bike/bags I’d like to focus on if you have any previous touring experience? Try and put in at least a few one or two-nighters relatively near to home before heading out for something epic. It helps to shake out all kinds of gear issues and lessens the general pre-travel anxiety.
