Depends on the length of ride and the weather! I don’t commute with a laptop anymore but when I did, the ride was only about 15 minutes and all paved. I ended up getting a messenger bag with a good laptop compartment to keep the weight nicely balanced on my back without interfering with range of motion. I’d also consider a low profile backpack. How big of a laptop you totin’?

  2. Velcro close neoprene laptop sleeve on rack side of a Ortlieb Backroller pannier plus a change of clothes or similar to fill space. OR just run with a backpack on, OR shove the backpack in the Ortlieb.

If I had to carry a laptop I would change the setup. In a padded sleeve in a pannier would probably be safest. Though I do love a basket-n-saddlebag setup so maybe quit the job that requires you to tote a laptop around.
