This bike was purchased new at Spike’s Bikes in Biloxi, Mississippi by the original owner, an army veteran, who took the bike with him on his tour of duty in Germany. Upon returning to the states, it seems he rarely rode the bike as it was in near-mint condition when I bought the bike on consignment from a LBS in 2013 and became the second owner. With it’s mix of comfort, neutral but responsive handling and relative quickness, it has been my daily-rider, to-go food/grocery/beer hauler ever since. I have ordered a pair of Kenda K161s because I’d like to use it as a gravel bike as well and tire options in the original 27” wheel size are limited. If I don’t like those, the Paselas (one of my all-time favorite tires) will go back on. The original 5-speed freewheel has been upgraded to a Shimano 6-speed but I have plans to upgrade to a 7-speed with a wider range. The original Sun Tour LeTech front derailleur remains in good working order but the complex triple pivot LeTour rear derailleur had to be replaced when it broke. The Altus derailleur does the job perfectly but I’m on the lookout for a polished period replacement.
