If it was a double to start with, why not use the FD cable route? Connector size, possibly? I’m very careful about modifying and potentially compromising a frame, particularly carbon. I have done this before.

I’m very confused. Both pictures seem to depict stock openings/holes in the frame. Why do you believe those openings/holes are new?

It may not have ever had a grommet but that looks like normal holes in an internally routed carbon frame.
I have a 2019 carbon frame bike and it has a very similar hole in the bottom bracket for the front derailleur cable and no grommet in it from the factory.
Doesn’t seem to make the most sense to me but that’s how the bike came new.

Those are mechanical cable holes. Usually di2 uses different holes. These holes are generally still there even if you have electronic shifting. Not often are bikes made for electronic alone, it makes them more versatile.

The second pic is where the shifter cable will come out normally. It’s not a new hole.

I only drilled the Alu frame to install the dropper. And you success on the carbon frame, congrat.
But it’s really high risk to drill on carbon.

Yes they are factory holes, although it looks like they’ve used the mechanical hole for the front mech cable. There’s usually another hole for di2 that would have been neater to use. Also missing a grommet to sit in the hole to protect the cable from rubbing on the sharp carbon edge.
