My journey of last year through the Schwarzwald Radweg (Black Forest Cycle Route) in Germany was a wild, unforgettable experience. This 370-kilometer ride on my 1993 Scott Boulder with suspension fork took me right through the heart of the Black Forest, revealing a landscape of rugged hills, peaceful lakes, and dense, whispering woods.
This well-maintained trail offers diverse terrains, suitable for both MTB and gravel bikes. The red diamond signs that mark the route ensure you won’t lose your way, even in the heart of the forest.
The views were mind-blowing, but the adventure truly peaked when my rear tire blew, forcing a two-hour hike down the mountain.
As for accommodation, I embraced the spirit of adventure and wild camped throughout the journey. A word of caution though – the weather can be unpredictable up in the hills, so ensure you pack your essentials wisely!
In summary, if you’re seeking a bikepacking adventure that combines breathtaking natural beauty with the thrill of self-sufficiency, the Schwarzwald Radweg is a must. Despite the challenges, I can definitely recommend it.
