  1. Hi, Great review of the Sandown to Newport line. Full of interesting information and nostalgic archive footage. So well researched as usual. As a young boy I was a railway fanatic and spent every holiday from 9 years old until I was 15 on the Island. Sad to say I am old enough to just remember the closing of this line. Look forward to your review of the line to Ventnor West which was a difficult decision to understand.

  2. I cycled this line between Merstone and Sandown yesterday coincidentally. Another great well researched episode. I live in Godshill so looking forward to the last line where the St Lawrence tunnel is walkable (torch advised 🤣)

  3. Excellent video. Nice to see the old footage as well. Also nice that the some o f the old station buildings are still standing. Merstone will be high on my list when I eventually get back to the island.

  4. Loving these videos Jack. Looking forward to the next one and your journey through the tunnel. I finally got to walk through it back in September.
Beware of the ghosts in there. 😉

  5. Thanks! I cycled that trail during my holiday on the island a couple of weeks ago. Good to see it again and to get a bit more information about its history. I too was surprised by the gradient just southeast of Merstone. No problem on a bike, but definitely a job for The Little Engine That Could when it was a railway!
