How to diagnose a faulty ebike, This bike is dead as a dodo, whats involved with tryiong to find out why and what can be done.
Dont forget that this is a rare problem when you take into account how many Bosch powered bikes that are our there.

If you are an ebike motor specialist I would love to hear your comments on if you think you could fix these issues and what success you have.

  1. I personally find it shocking how bosch get away with fitting these motors to mountain bikes knowing they can't cope with crappy conditions. My bike is 6 month old and in the shop for it's 3rd motor already. It's an absolute joke.

  2. Hello. missed the guy with the accent. Pretty sure the motor itself can be repaired. I can feel my fingers wanting to crack it open to figure it out whats wrong. Rule of the thumb, if its not followed by a catastrophic failure, usually the power reșated issues are the easiest to faultfind. Im surprised the video was not starting with a connections schematic for the bike. Also, I would NEVER fit new parts to a faulty scenario without assessing the full schematic because they can get damaged too, and that would not be fun.
Dave, it seems to me you need a guy who can repair electronics, as good as you are with mechanics.
    Cheers.

  3. Many thanks! I was afraid that you’d solve this before showing us the Bosch software diagnostic, LOL. Will we see rebuilt motors in the future as a fourth option?

  4. Shouldn’t bosh dealers be trained to strip the motor and replace parts of it like the electronics board , I don’t own a bosh bike , the one I’ve done 1.5k miles on is a Chinese bike that would only cost £800 to replace but it’s been everywhere that my mates electric Trek rail has been and most of that pulling a loaded trailer , his first service cost him £500 for parts and the service cost , it’s a dear do by the sound of it , all the parts for mine are available within eight days with only the 23AH battery and the hub motor wheel being expensive but nowhere near bosh prices .

  5. Excellent video, thank you – just a shame internal components are not available seperately especially the main board to save binning the rest of a pobabaly a perfectly usable motor. (just my eco friendly & repair/reuse ethos)

  6. Had a cube ebike for 3 years. 2 motors. Had the 2nd rebuilt for £360 and sold the bike. Bosch are s–t. Went back to analogue. Right to repair laws need addressing in the uk.

  7. Touch Wood 🤞 my 2018 Canyon Spectral On Shimano E8000 motor has been faultless, over 2400km and lots of winter riding ( bikes well looked after and maintained)
In you honest opinion who makes the most relatable motor? Also what about sending the motor for repairs to one of two companies that now repairs ebike motors and do exchange motors also.

  8. I would have cleaned all the connectors on the cables and ports on the motor with contact cleaner. Since its already out of warranty I would open the motor up and look at the circuit board inside to see if water / mud got in there and clean it. A lot of times the board can short or be rendered inoperable due to mud contamination from use or high pressure cleaning.

  9. Do you know why an error code appears every time I flat land jumps at a high speed? Accelerator Sensor error on my Bosch CX Performance Gen 4?

  10. You forgot to check the connectors on the Motor itself, could just be a tiny bit of corrosion 😀
Nice Video tho, always enjoy watching a Master at work 😀

  11. I have a 5 year old Cube Hybrid. It's done 6,250 miles with no problems at all with the electrics. Not even the display battery! Have I been lucky so far or what!

  12. Nice presentation. As a technician I would surely open the motor and inspect for damage before paying for a new one. If there's no warranty, then there's nothing to lose, right?

  13. When this happens om the older power tubes with the green leds fit the battery back to bike and power it on from the battery button itself it should over ride the fault in 90% of cases! Seen people doing this a few time's with the older non smart system! A very important step that has not been done here that could save alot time and money!

  14. There a refurbishment motor shop in the UK take your old broken motor as px exchange hell get a fully rebuild on from them for £250! They have just been on a walk round video on a bike channel

  15. Surely the motor can be serviceable if not from Bosch from a third party company. If there is a PCB inside the motor, can't this be replaced or repaired?

  16. Bosch dealer only diagnostics unlike Bafang which is a much easier and cheaper motor to repair and diagnose faults and spares are readily available..

  17. Great video thanks. could you please do a video on replacing bosch gen 4 bearing protection ring service kit, the outer seals. and re greasing . many thanks
