Dug up this old girl that was sitting in the shed. Needs a major service and some consumables replaced (chain, tyres, tubes, cables, brake pads) but in all round decent condition. Worst is the rust on the rear derailleur (1980s Shimano Altus group set, it’s the lower end ST rear derailleur with the plastic components but it still responds to the shifter, however I’ve found someone selling a 600 one from the same era for $20 that would make the job 10x easier). Ukai 27 X 1 1/4 rims that look pretty straight. Small alloy mud guards. It even has a Sanyo Dynapower dynamo with lights which I’m considering changing to LED (if the dyno still works). No play in the crank, steerer or wheels.
Thinking of doing it up as a gift to my brother, especially as it’s a complete bike.
I know the stem shifters and aux brake levers aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it would only be for cruising around. My bro appreciates his vintage bikes but stupidly sold his two Perth built steel frames, one which had completed a Tour De France amongst other things.
Paintwork has some mild surface rust but stickers are all intact and the frame is solid.
Worth the effort? Seems a shame to let it rot when I can do the work myself with some common parts.
Nothing special but nice mid rangish example for the era.
