I mean I wouldn’t be comfortable riding a bike like that. Throw another link on that chain and you should be fine.

It is rideable and as the chain wears and you tension it it will go deeper, but if it were my bike I would have an extra link or two on the chain for peace of mind. Yes. I would extend that chain. You don’t want it fully back into the dropout, but it shouldn’t be on that edge either. Middle of the dropout is where it needs to be.

You can add a BMX tensioner for piece of mind. I use a Surly Hurdy Gurdy but there’s cheaper options that will do the same thing.

The nut seems like it’s in full contact with the dropout, so it’s solid and safe.
But I’d still add an extra link

It’s safe, but you can see the dropout starting to widen or spread. This from over tightening and/or not using a washer.
Less prone to widen if axle is deeper in the dropouts.

Is your dropout a bit opened up? As in it’s wider at the front than the back. It looks a bit that way to me. Take the wheel out and measure the gap (front and back).

It’s definitely add a whole extra link if it was my bike. At the risk of pointing out the obvious, adding a whole extra link (one inch) only makes the axis-to-axis length increase by half that, as the additional length is spread across the top and bottom path of the chain.

among the other solutions offered, if you were thinking about installing a smaller crank on the front, that’s another option to move things further back.
