Speaking of cyclists on the street, one of the co-hosts of *Radio X’s Le retour*, Louis Gauvin, reportedly suggested giving “a little tug on the steering wheel to say ‘Hey, you’ve got no business being there, you’re pissing me off'”.

The segment no longer appeared on the station’s website Thursday afternoon. It was, however, shared in the last few hours on social networks.

    # “This is assault!”

And it’s not just on social networks where Mr. Gauvin’s comments are causing a reaction. In the studio, his colleagues were quick to put him in his place.

“You don’t drive a car, *man*. That’s assault! The guy, if he blows his brains out, concussion, you find out in the paper the next day that he’s dead,” another host immediately retorted.

“All he had to do was not be there. I just gave a little push on the steering wheel,” Mr. Gauvin defended himself.

    “It’s dangerous. It’s criminal,” insisted another co-host.

A co-host finally asked him (ironically) if he should also “kill” motorists who drive with a cell phone in their hand.

    # What the law says

According to CAA-Quebec, motorists and cyclists are responsible for sharing the road safely.

Motorists must maintain a lateral distance of one metre from cyclists if the speed limit is 50km/h or less, and 1.5 metres if the speed limit exceeds 50km/h. They must also reduce speed when approaching cyclists, and observe their behaviour in order to anticipate their movements.

  2. I live in the same province, and this exact behaviour is why I ride with a camera, and always keep my bike lock within reach to throw at any car who tries this.

I started doing that after witnessing someone harassing a cyclist this exact way in the middle of the city. I got my phone out, started recording as the guy was screaming out of his car window, so I started screaming his numberplate number. Once the guy realised, he drove off pretty quickly, but holy shit are there some utter fucknuggets out there….
